Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Blaylock.

Hi Jasmine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The Story Behind Jazzedup Beauty

Jazzedup Beauty began in my bedroom in Brooklyn, New York, inside my family’s brownstone. Long before it became a business, hair was my outlet. It was one of the ways I learned to express what I could not always put into words.

For years, I struggled to express what was happening inside of me. When I couldn’t find the words, I often found myself feeling depressed, disconnected, and unable to truly see myself. But when I did hair, something changed. Hair gave me a way to create, to feel, and to express a part of me that I didn’t always know how to communicate.

What started as an outlet eventually became a calling.

After earning my bachelor’s degree, I made the decision to attend cosmetology school because I knew there was something greater connected to what I had been doing all along. I had worked in different salons, continued to grow my craft, and eventually took a major leap of faith by leaving New York and moving my business to Houston.

But building a business while rebuilding myself was not easy.

During this journey, I experienced the loss of my mother and the loss of my grandparents, who raised me. Those losses affected me deeply. Internally, I wanted to shut down again. There were moments when I wanted to stop doing hair altogether and walk away from the business.

But something inside of me kept reminding me that I had a story.

And I had a voice.

I realized that Jazzedup could be about so much more than creating beautiful hairstyles. It could become a space where women were reminded of who they were. A place where they could sit in my chair and leave not only looking different, but feeling different.

I began to understand that my own journey through finding my voice was part of the reason I was called to work with other women. I wanted women to know that they are beautiful. That they are bold and courageous. That they are worthy of every good thing life has to offer. And most importantly, I wanted them to see themselves again.

That is what Jazzedup Beauty represents to me.

Yes, I do hair. Yes, I create styles that make women feel beautiful. But the deeper work happens internally. I want to encourage women, pour into them, and create an environment where they can be reminded of their worth and begin to see who they truly are.

Jazzedup Beauty is not just a brand. It is a reflection of my own journey.

I went from using hair to express the things I could not say, to finding my voice and using it to encourage other women. What once helped me feel beautiful on the outside became part of a greater purpose: helping women recognize the beauty that has been within them all along.

Jazzedup is about transformation, but not just the kind you can see in a mirror.

It is about beauty that begins within.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest struggles I faced along the way was learning how to keep going when I wanted to quit. I have walked away from my business multiple times because of grief, self-doubt, financial challenges, moving to a new city, and personal and health challenges. There were seasons when I felt like I had nothing left to give and just wanted to shut down.

The difficult part was realizing that I could never really quit silently. Even when I wanted to step away, people were still looking for me to do their hair, encourage them, and speak life into them. No matter where I went or visited, someone was always asking about their hair or asking when I would be back.

Over time, I began to realize that my struggles were not meaningless. Every difficult season gave me another part of my story to share with someone else. The grief taught me about resilience. The financial struggles taught me perseverance. The self-doubt challenged me to believe in myself again. The setbacks taught me that purpose does not always disappear just because you feel tired.

I am still growing, but I have learned that sometimes the very things we wish we could hide become the stories that give someone else the courage to keep going. My struggles have shaped Jazzedup into more than a business. They have given me a story, a voice, and a deeper desire to encourage people to believe that they can make it through difficult seasons too.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Jazzedup Beauty ?
Jazzedup Beauty is a beauty brand specializing in a variety of hairstyling services, including braids, sew-ins, haircuts, natural hair styling, silk presses, and more. I love creating styles that help women feel confident, beautiful, and comfortable in who they are.

But Jazzedup Beauty is about more than just doing hair. My brand is centered around the belief that beauty begins within. I want every person who sits in my chair to leave not only loving their hair, but also feeling encouraged, seen, and reminded of their worth.

My personal journey has shown me how powerful it can be when someone speaks life into you, and that is what I want Jazzedup Beauty to represent. I want people to know that when they come to Jazzedup, they are getting more than a hairstyle. They are getting an experience, encouragement, and a reminder that they are beautiful inside and out.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice to anyone starting a business is to give yourself permission to grow and to not be discouraged by the process. You may not have everything figured out in the beginning, and that’s okay. Start with what you have, learn as you go, and be willing to adjust along the way.

There will be moments when you doubt yourself, experience financial challenges, or feel like giving up. Don’t let one difficult season convince you that you are not called to what you started. Stay consistent, keep learning, and remember why you started in the first place.

Most importantly, don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Build your business in a way that is authentic to you, and understand that success takes time. Your story, your gifts, and your unique perspective are part of what makes your business valuable.
