Community Highlights: Meet Manish Wani of Texas ENT Specialists

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manish Wani

Hi Manish, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am the father of 2 amazing kids (28 and 26). In 2001, looking for any help in parenting, I happened to read Gandhi’s autobiography, “The Story of My Experiments with Truth”. Since then, I teamed up with co-founders of the now Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston, Atul Kothari and Dev Mahajan to keep the legacy of Gandhi alive and preserve and promote his values of peace, truth, non-violence, service and love. In 2009, the seed of having a Gandhi Museum in the Americas was planted by the curators at Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum in Delhi. We teamed up with local architectural firm, RDLR and also with Solid Light, Inc who designed, fabricated and installed the galleries at the museum. In February 2020, 7 of us made a trip to India visiting 5 National Gandhi Museums, in 4 cities over 7 days. This whirlwind tour gave us the inspiration to create the Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston. The museum opened it’s doors to the public on August 15, 2023 and was officially inaugurated by Dr. Raj Mohan Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, and Mr. Isaac Newton Farris, nephew of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on October 2nd, 2023.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We made the trip to India in February 2020 and came back with great enthusiasm to start building the museum. We had purchased the 3 acre parcel of land but construction was delayed due to the Covid epidemic. as supplies and labor were limited. Fundraising has also been a challenge for this $10 million project

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Texas ENT Specialists?
By trade, I am an Otolaryngologist/head and Neck surgeon. I went to Medical school at Baylor College of Medicine(4 years), residency at University of Tennessee in Memphis (6 years) and then a fellowship at Rush Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago (1 year). I finished my training in 2001 and joined Texas ENT Specialists.
I believe in combining the latest surgical techniques with a personal approach to each patient. I am Board Certified and a fellowship-trained subspecialist in Advanced Rhinology and Head and Neck cancer who believes it is important to listen to each patient in order to best pinpoint and solve their problems. I see patients of all ages, including pediatrics, and treats all ENT-related disease

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
We all have forks in the road where we have to choose a path. So many decision made that we can look back on and wonder what if… I do go with my gut instinct and listen to my inner voice during these times. Whether it’s the specialty I chose for residency, the company I decided to join, starting the museum project, raising kids.. so many aspects of life where risks have to be taken, I feel myself as being calculated in taking any risks.
