Community Highlights: Meet Patricia Covarrubias-Diaz of The Preferred Team

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Covarrubias-Diaz.

Hi Patricia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into real estate began long before I became a licensed agent. Years ago, when I was ready to purchase my first home, I contacted a real estate agent hoping for guidance. Unfortunately, I did not receive the direction or preparation I needed. Looking back, I believe the right guidance could have helped me become a homeowner much sooner.

That experience inspired me to become the type of agent I had needed—someone who educates, prepares, and guides clients instead of simply showing them properties.

I earned my Texas real estate license in June 2018 and hold a Bachelor of Business Administration in General Business from the University of Houston-Downtown, with minors in Management and Marketing. My background in Human Resources, payroll, and finance taught me the importance of organization, communication, accuracy, and helping people navigate important decisions.

As a native Houstonian and bilingual agent, I enjoy helping buyers, sellers, renters, and investors throughout the Greater Houston area—especially those who may not know where to begin. Even when someone is not ready to purchase today, the right information and a realistic plan can prepare them for the future.

To me, real estate is about more than transactions. It is about building relationships, earning trust, and staying connected with clients long after they receive their keys. I believe clients deserve an agent who listens, communicates honestly, and remains by their side throughout the process.

For several years, I worked independently as a solo agent. In 2022, I met my husband, Robert Diaz. About six months later, he earned his real estate license and initially joined me to provide additional support with showings. His role quickly grew as he became more involved in working with clients and supporting every stage of the process.

In 2023, we created The Preferred Team to represent the level of service we strive to provide and our goal of becoming the trusted team our clients prefer and confidently recommend.

In 2026, we officially registered The Preferred Team as an LLC. Today, we work side by side as husband-and-wife real estate professionals. Our clients benefit from the availability, responsiveness, and combined perspective of two agents working toward the same goal. While one of us may be coordinating a showing, inspection, or negotiation, the other can remain available to answer questions and keep the process moving.

Our motto is, “Two agents. One goal.” That goal is to help each client move forward with confidence, whether they are buying, selling, leasing, investing, or preparing for a future purchase.

What began as a difficult personal experience became the purpose behind my career. Today, Robert and I are proud to grow The Preferred Team while educating clients, building lasting relationships, and helping more people achieve their real estate goals.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has certainly had its ups and downs. We have celebrated many successful closings, but we have also experienced transactions that fell through and others that required extensions, patience, and creative problem-solving to reach the closing table. Those experiences taught us that real estate is rarely a straight path and that our clients often need us most when unexpected challenges arise.

There have also been times when we have gone beyond our traditional responsibilities to help move a transaction forward. From coordinating lawn maintenance for vacant listings to helping clients identify practical solutions when unexpected expenses arise, we are willing to invest additional time and effort to help position our clients for success. We view these efforts as a reflection of how committed we are to each client and their transaction.

Not every challenge can be solved, and not every transaction reaches the closing table. However, each experience has helped us become more resourceful, patient, and prepared. The difficult moments have taught us to communicate clearly, anticipate potential obstacles, and continue looking for solutions. Ultimately, the challenges have strengthened our commitment to serving our clients with compassion and treating every transaction as if it were our own.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Preferred Team?
The Preferred Team is a bilingual, husband-and-wife real estate team serving Houston and the surrounding areas. We help clients buy, sell, lease, invest, and explore new-construction opportunities.

We especially enjoy guiding first-time buyers and clients who may not know where to begin. Through our trusted professional network, we can connect clients with experienced lending professionals who can help them explore financing options that may fit their individual needs and circumstances.

What sets us apart is the personal attention our clients receive from two agents with different strengths and perspectives. More importantly, we believe good real estate guidance begins with listening and education—not pressure. Whether clients are ready to make a move today or simply preparing for the future, we want The Preferred Team to be a trusted resource they can turn to throughout their real estate journey.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned is that no two clients or transactions are the same. A client’s real estate needs are often shaped by their current stage of life. They may be first-time buyers looking for a starter home, new parents needing more space, empty nesters ready to downsize, retirees seeking comfort and convenience, or investors building their future.

This has taught me to listen before offering advice and to never assume that every client has the same goals. Our role is to understand what matters most to each person and tailor our guidance to help them make decisions that align with their needs, finances, and future goals.
