Community Highlights: Meet Viviana Camarillo of Camarillo Film Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Viviana Camarillo.

Hi Viviana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been interested in photography and videography since I was in high school. I was involved with yearbook and Newspaper. I actually tried to start a photography business right out of high school but my first and only camera broke. I wasn’t able to replace it, so I didn’t pick up a camera again until I graduated from college. My friend who leads a run club here in Houston (Space City Run Club) asked if I can take photos for him and it really snowballed from there. People would see my work and before I knew it I was working all kinds of Pilates and running events on the weekends. However, it wasn’t until I was let go from my 9 to 5 that I realized I was too comfortable and needed to take a chance on myself and grow my photography career.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely been a test of patience and of will. Starting a business of any kind is an act of faith and it’s hard to stay positive sometimes but I know I’m where I belong and although it’s hard work, it truly brings me joy.

As you know, we’re big fans of Camarillo Film Collective . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Camarillo Film Collective is my multimedia company. I am a photographer by trade; weddings, portraits, events, etc. and well known for my editorial work. However, I am not limited to photography. I produce video content, design marketing materials, and creative direct for indie films and other creative projects. My background in theatre and film has been instrumental in creating cinematic storytelling for my photography and film projects. I’m very proud of my work in that I don’t limit my clients to a one size fits all style. Each project feels personal and uniquely tailored to their personality or vision. I want my prospective clients to know that I am not just a photographer but someone who will help bring their wildest dreams into reality and capture it on camera!

What’s next?
In the near future I’d like to expand more into fashion and film because my home will always be the stage and film sets. Big picture wise, I plan to grow the collective into a full blown media team. Photographers, videographers, designers and content creators. I want to give opportunities to overlooked creatives and creators to come together and make art we are proud of whether it be for commercial, creative or personal projects.
