Constance Smith of West Houston on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Constance Smith shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Constance, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would definitely hire myself! The reason I would hire myself is that I truly love photography and have a genuine passion for the craft. When someone has a genuine passion for something, they are more likely to put their true heart and soul into it because they genuinely love what they’re doing, so it doesn’t feel like work. Things that you enjoy doing, you want to show up and do your best at it. I am always on the lookout for the next creative shot or creative location. I think of a photo shoot the same way I would want things done if it were my own personal shoot. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my own photos, so I tend to be a perfectionist when it comes to others as well. I ensure the hair is in place, the outfit is well-put together, and the smiles are big and bright. I also enjoy laughing with my clients and loosening them up so that they feel comfortable in front of the lens, and I love bringing out their true personalities and letting them shine. I will repeat that same shot until it’s perfect and the client feels like a million bucks!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
A lack of trust is what breaks bonds between people. When a person feels safe and knows they can share anything with a particular person, and not have to fear being betrayed, it opens the door to closeness and builds intimacy. If that trust is broken for whatever reason, and you have to question or doubt a person’s loyalty and integrity, it does not foster a trusting relationship or friendship. I believe the key to restoring bonds once they’re broken is to demonstrate true authenticity and accountability in acknowledging whatever it was that fractured the relationship, and to let the person know that you genuinely want to repair the relationship and are willing to do the necessary work to do so.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self I would say “You’re doing a great job…..don’t give up…..keep going….you got this….you can do this”!!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that trust and loyalty really matter to me. Say whatever it is you mean, and mean whatever it is you say. All a person has is their word. Friendship is a verb. It’s an action. Support. Showing up even when you don’t feel like it because you know that person would show up for you.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when my kids are thriving and doing well, and I am at home with family, sharing a meal, watching a great movie, and spending time just loving on each other. It’s the simple moments that mean the most for me.
