Today we’d like to introduce you to Alondra Martinez.
Hi Alondra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I knew I wanted to be a writer ever since I was little. I’ve always been a creative person, but writing is my favorite medium. However, I felt like I needed permission to express that part of myself. For a long time, I hesitated to call myself a writer. I felt like I had to earn the title somehow.
Over time, I started letting go of that idea. My goal has shifted away from waiting until I feel “good enough” to sharing my words with others simply because I have something to say. Writing has always been a way for me to explore my thoughts and experiences, yet it was something I usually kept to myself. Now, I’m learning to see the value in allowing someone else to experience those words too. Today, I have my own blog, I’m working on my debut poetry collection, and I continue to explore different forms of storytelling and creative expression.
That journey also inspired me to create Rise Through Writing—a platform dedicated to helping young women find their voices through writing. I know what it feels like to have thoughts and feelings you don’t know what to do with. I want to encourage women to express themselves and build confidence through writing. Through writing prompts, challenges, and my new ebook, *How to Rise Through Writing*, I hope to help others discover the value in their own stories and feel empowered to share their voices.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve had to learn how to overcome comparing myself to others and how to keep going even when progress is slow.
It’s easy to compare yourself to others and assume they have somehow figured it all out. But the truth is, everyone is on their own journey and figuring things out along the way. I’m learning that my journey is unfolding as it is meant to, and I shouldn’t want it to look like anyone else’s.
A big part of that has been working on my mindset. When I start something new, I can’t expect myself to immediately be as good as someone who has been doing it for years. I have to give myself permission to be a beginner, make mistakes, learn, and improve. That can be especially difficult when you’re sharing your journey publicly because people get to see both your successes and the moments when things don’t go as planned.
I’ve also had to change the way I think about results. An article might not perform as well as I hoped, a post might receive less engagement than I expected, or an opportunity might not work out. I’m learning that those moments don’t determine the value of what I’m doing. Sometimes progress is simply continuing when it would be easier to get discouraged.
Most importantly, I’ve learned to appreciate what I already have instead of constantly looking toward the next milestone. I genuinely value every person who reads something I’ve written, leaves a comment, likes a post, or takes the time to give me feedback. I would rather appreciate the people supporting me now than overlook them while chasing a bigger number.
I’m still working on my mindset every day, but I think that’s part of the journey too. I don’t need to have everything figured out. I just need to be willing to keep going.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an author, blogger, and pageant titleholder. My work centers around storytelling, self-expression, and encouraging women to use their voices.
Through my blog, I created an interview series called *The Write Conversations*, where I share the stories and perspectives of women who are making an impact in their respective fields. I love having the opportunity to learn about someone’s journey beyond their accomplishments—the challenges they’ve faced, what motivates them, and the experiences that shaped who they are today.
Additionally, I share my own experiences competing in pageants. As someone who didn’t grow up doing pageants, I want to share what the process is actually like. I want people to see that there is more to pageantry than just the glam factor. It takes hard work, a healthy mindset, and passion.
As the current Miss Heart of Texas Ultimate USA, I use my crown to promote my platform, Rise Through Writing, which encourages others to explore writing as a form of self-expression. I recently released a free ebook called *How to Rise Through Writing* to help people begin their own writing journeys.
My goal is to encourage others to pursue their goals and dreams, even if they aren’t perfect or good at something when they first begin. So many people only show the polished result. I want to show people the journey. I also think there’s something really special about being able to look back and see how much I’ve grown along the way.
What makes you happy?
The act of creating makes me happy. I think it’s such a privilege to be able to express what’s in our hearts through a physical medium, whether that’s writing, music, art, or even performance.
There’s a Maya Angelou quote that says, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” I think a lot of people, not just writers, can relate to that feeling. For me, it’s important to create simply for my own sake and because I have something I want to express. Being able to do that while encouraging others to express themselves too is incredibly fulfilling.
And if something I create happens to resonate with someone else, that already feels like more than enough.
