Conversations with Chanell Monique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanell Monique.

Chanell, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been singing since I was six years old, so music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up singing in church, and by the time I was 15, I was serving as the choir director for the adult choir. That gave me an early opportunity to develop not only as a vocalist, but also as a leader.

While I was in high school, I was part of a girl group called Eterniti. We recorded an album, and although it didn’t do as well as we hoped, it was an important experience that introduced me to another side of the music industry.

I’ve also had the opportunity to perform internationally. I’ve toured Germany three times with The Glory Gospel Singers, which was an incredible experience and allowed me to grow as a performer.

Music isn’t my only passion. I’m also an actress and have been a part of SX Branch & Co., affectionately known as The Co., since 2016. I’ve had the opportunity to play lead roles in productions such as Somebody Else’s Husband, When the Church Became My Enemy, and The Invitation. Acting has allowed me to express myself creatively in a completely different way while still connecting with an audience.

I’m also an author. I’ve written and published two books, The Sweet Spot and Uncovered and Exposed, which gave me another way to use my voice and share my experiences and perspectives with others.

Today, I continue to sing locally here in Houston, and I recently became a part of the Level One Band, which is an exciting new chapter for me. So, my story really is about being an artist in multiple forms—music and acting—and continuing to grow, learn, and find new ways to share my gifts.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. It has definitely not been a smooth road. There was even a point where I stopped singing altogether because I had lost the joy that initially made me fall in love with music. I had to take a step back and really reconnect with why I started singing in the first place.

Another challenge has been learning how to navigate people in the industry, music and theatre. Not everyone you encounter has your best interests at heart, and I’ve experienced situations where people tried to manipulate me or take advantage of my passion and willingness to help. Learning to recognize those situations, establish boundaries, and trust my instincts has been a big part of my growth.

But those struggles have also taught me a lot. They’ve made me stronger, wiser, and more intentional about the people I surround myself with and the opportunities I pursue. Most importantly, I found my way back to the joy of singing, and that’s what keeps me going.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m not only a singer; I’m also an author and an actress. I have two books available on Amazon, The Sweet Spot and Uncovered and Exposed. Because I’ve been singing my whole life, that’s what most people know me for. Singing is at the heart of my work, and I specialize in using my voice to connect with people, share meaningful experiences, and express emotions in a way that feels honest and relatable.

I’m most proud of continuing to pursue my creativity through music, acting and writing. Each journey has challenged me to grow, become more vulnerable, and use my experiences to encourage and inspire others.

What sets me apart is that I do everything with my whole heart. Whether I’m singing, acting, writing, or connecting with people, I bring authenticity, passion, and intention to everything I do. I’m not interested in simply going through the motions—I want my work to make people feel something, think differently, and know that they are not alone.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I would also like readers to know that my journey is still unfolding. I’m continuing to learn, create, and discover new ways to use my voice and experiences to make a positive impact. My hope is that through my music, books, and personal story, I can remind others to embrace who they are, pursue their dreams, and never underestimate the power of their own voice.
