Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Egeonu.
Hi Daniel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a Christian home, and my father, who is still a pastor today, helped create an environment where faith and music were central to my upbringing. I joined the church choir, and at the age of 13, I began playing the drums, keyboard, and bass guitar. Those experiences deepened my love for music and helped me understand rhythm, melody, and how music connects people.
Even as I explored different instruments, there was something about watching a DJ perform that always excited me. I was fascinated by the way a DJ could read a room, bring people together, and change the energy of an event. During college, I spent some of my free time practicing with Virtual DJ on my phone and laptop. At the time, it was simply something I enjoyed, but the passion continued to grow.
My professional journey began shortly before I moved from Nigeria to the United States. My wonderful and supportive wife, ED, asked me a question that became a turning point: “When you come over, what would you love to do as a side hustle?”
My answer came naturally. I told her that becoming a DJ was something I had always wanted to pursue but had never formally explored. With her encouragement, I enrolled in training with DJ Quest, a well-known DJ in Lagos. For several months, he taught me the fundamentals of DJing and helped me begin turning my passion into a practical skill. Before I could complete my training, however, it was time to relocate to the United States.
Arriving in a new country meant finding my footing and figuring out how to continue what I had started. I had the passion, but I did not know where to begin. Through God’s grace, I met DJ Mekzy, who became a wonderful friend, mentor, and someone I now consider an older brother.
DJ Mekzy gave me the encouragement and guidance I needed to get started. Beyond the technical skills, he taught me how to manage the energy of an event and carry myself as a professional DJ. Under his mentorship, I gained experience, learned from my mistakes, and became more confident in my abilities.
From the beginning, I was intentional about the direction I wanted to take. I chose to focus on corporate and private events, building a career around creating memorable experiences for clients and their guests. That decision has helped shape my identity as a DJ and the opportunities I pursue.
Today, I am proud to have grown into a professional international DJ. Seeing my calendar fill with bookings on many weekends is rewarding, especially when I think back to those early days of practicing on my phone and laptop.
I am still learning, refining my craft, and challenging myself to improve. My journey has been shaped by faith, my wife’s support, the generosity of my mentors, and a willingness to keep going. What began as a childhood love of music has become a meaningful part of my life, and I am excited to see where it takes me next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges early on was learning to work confidently across different genres of music while keeping up with new releases. Loving music is one thing, but knowing what to play, when to play it, and how to connect with different audiences takes practice and experience.
I certainly had some difficult days in the beginning as I was finding my footing in the DJ world. There were a few events where I walked away feeling that my performance had not met the standard I wanted to deliver. Those moments were disappointing, but they also pushed me to take an honest look at where I needed to improve.
Instead of allowing those experiences to discourage me, I used them as lessons. I spent more time practicing, expanding my music knowledge, and working on the areas where I felt less confident. Gradually, I began turning those weaknesses into strengths.
I’m still learning today, but those early challenges taught me to be patient with myself and consistent in my efforts. They helped shape the professional I am becoming and strengthened my commitment to giving every event my best.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work in the healthcare IT field as a Clinical Quality Analyst, where I audit medical records to help ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality of care. I also consult on several electronic health record ;EHRsystems, helping organizations improve their workflows and use technology more effectively.
What sets me apart is the combination of my clinical knowledge, attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to understand both healthcare operations and technology. I’m proud of the role I play in supporting better documentation, more efficient processes, and improved outcomes for both healthcare professionals and patients.
Although healthcare IT is my current profession, I plan to begin my real estate career soon. Real estate has been a passion of mine for many years because I’m interested in property, investment, and helping people find opportunities that support their personal and financial goals. I’m excited to bring the same professionalism, integrity, research skills, and commitment to service that have shaped my healthcare career into real estate.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is rooted in helping people and making life easier for others. Achieving my own goals is meaningful, but being able to support someone else, open a door for them, or help them find their footing brings me even greater fulfillment.
I believe success is also reflected in the success of those who come after you. Having benefited from the guidance and encouragement of others, I want to offer that same support wherever I can. To me, a lasting legacy is seeing the people you have mentored or encouraged grow, thrive, and create opportunities for others.
Whether I’m creating memorable experiences as a DJ or contributing to quality care through my healthcare work, I want what I do to make a positive difference. Financial stability and professional growth matter, but my deepest measure of success is how I treat people, how I support my family, and how I help others move forward while staying true to my faith and values.
