Conversations with Delahna Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delahna Johnson.

Hi Delahna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am Delahna Johnson, a Houston-based makeup artist located in the Galleria area. I moved to Houston in 2021 from my hometown of Killeen, Texas, but my journey with makeup started long before I ever imagined turning it into a career.

I first started doing makeup in high school, mostly by practicing on myself and learning through trial and error. Eventually, my friends began asking me to do their makeup for events like prom and homecoming. After graduating high school, I did one of my friend’s makeup for her birthday, and something really clicked for me. I realized how much I enjoyed not only doing makeup, but also seeing the confidence it gave people.

In 2019, I decided to take a chance on myself and pursue makeup full-time. What started as something I enjoyed doing eventually became a business and a career. When I moved to Houston in 2021, I had to build my clientele and my name in a completely new market, which pushed me to grow not only as an artist, but also as a business owner.

Today, I’m best known for my signature “Instagram Baddie Glam”—a polished, full-face natural or soft glam that enhances my clients’ features while still allowing them to feel like themselves. Over the years, I’ve built a loyal clientele and a brand around creating an elevated beauty experience, not just providing a makeup service.

As I’ve grown as an artist, I’ve also realized that I want to build beyond the makeup chair. That vision led me to create PoshMade Cosmetics, a vegan beauty brand focused on quality products such as lip glosses, lip liners, and lashes. PoshMade is an extension of the aesthetic and experience I’ve created through my makeup artistry—feminine, elevated, confident, and luxurious.

One of my biggest goals is to grow PoshMade into a full-scale makeup line and eventually build it into a globally recognized beauty brand. I want to create products that people genuinely love and reach women far beyond Houston. For me, this is bigger than simply selling makeup—it’s about creating a brand that represents confidence, quality, and luxury while staying true to where I started.

Looking back, it’s exciting to see how something that started with me practicing makeup on myself in high school has grown into a career, a business, and now the foundation for a much bigger vision in beauty.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like any entrepreneur, I’ve experienced seasons where things didn’t go exactly as planned, both personally and professionally. There have been times when I had to take a step back, reevaluate my business, and figure out how to move forward while still believing in what I was building.

One of my biggest challenges has been learning that being talented at what you do is only one part of running a successful business. I’ve had to learn about consistency, marketing, finances, client relationships, and the importance of showing up for my business even during seasons when things feel uncertain.

There have been moments of doubt and times when I’ve had to rebuild and start over in different ways, but those experiences have made me more resilient. They’ve taught me to be patient with my growth and to focus on building something sustainable rather than rushing the process.

I think those challenges have ultimately shaped me into a better artist and business owner. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I feel like I’m entering a season where I’m able to be much more intentional about where I want to take my brand next.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for creating makeup looks that are feminine, flattering, and photo-ready, with a strong focus on skin, complexion, highlight and contour, blush, and the overall balance of the look. I want my clients to leave feeling confident, beautiful, and ready for whatever they have planned.

What I’m most proud of is the community and clientele I’ve been able to build around my work. I’ve had clients who continue to come back to me for birthdays, events, photoshoots, and everyday moments where they simply want to feel good about themselves. Being able to turn someone who may walk in feeling unsure into someone who leaves feeling completely confident is one of my favorite parts of what I do.

I also think what sets me apart is that I care about the experience just as much as the makeup itself. I’m intentional about creating an environment where my clients feel comfortable, welcomed, and taken care of. I’m not just trying to complete a makeup appointment—I want people to remember how they felt when they sat in my chair.

Beyond being a makeup artist, I’m also building PoshTheMUA into a larger beauty brand through PoshMade Cosmetics. I’m proud that I’ve been able to turn something I started as a hobby into a business, a recognizable style, and a brand that I can continue to grow.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are several ways people can work with and support me. For clients, the best way to work with me is by booking through my website and experiencing my signature glam for yourself. I’m always excited to meet new clients while continuing to build relationships with the women who have supported me throughout my journey.

I’m also open to collaborating with photographers, content creators, models, stylists, beauty professionals, and brands that align with my aesthetic and vision. I love creating content, working with other creatives, and being part of projects that allow me to showcase my artistry in a creative way.

Another major part of my vision is PoshMade Cosmetics, my vegan beauty brand featuring quality lip glosses, lip liners, lashes, and future makeup products. People can support PoshMade by following the brand, shopping the products, sharing them with others, and collaborating with us on creative projects. As the brand grows, I’m also interested in connecting with other beauty professionals, creators, and businesses who align with the PoshMade vision.

Beyond booking or purchasing, one of the biggest ways people can support me is simply by sharing my work, tagging me, referring someone to me, or following along with my journey on social media. Word of mouth and genuine support have played a huge role in helping me grow.

Ultimately, I’m always looking to connect with people who believe in what I’m creating and want to grow alongside me. Whether that’s sitting in my chair, wearing PoshMade Cosmetics, collaborating on a project, sharing my work, or supporting the larger vision, every bit of support means a lot to me.
