Conversations with Houston Ensemble

Today we’d like to introduce you to Houston Ensemble.

Please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Founded by internationally recognized musicians Armov and Chad Wesselkamper, Houston Ensemble is reinvigorating the live-music scene and the creative arts. Houston Ensemble is one of the most notorious and widely in-demand bands in the greater Houston area, performing every day of the week as a band and in collaboration with other world-class acts in town. With the desire to shape Houston into the epicenter of the arts, Chad and Armov have established multiple weekly performance events across the city. Book us for festivals, corporate and government events, fundraisers, weddings, or other occasions.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Embodying the essence of a “New Renaissance” means potentially disrupting social assumptions along the way. Our interviews are periodically attacked by dissenting groups, and some of our media accounts have been erroneously expunged. Thankfully, our content speaks for itself and our accounts have been reinstated. As a platform dedicated to freedom of thought, we do not tolerate totalitarian gestures and won our channel back through logic and rationale. Coming back from deletion attempts is unheard of and is a testament to the quality and significance of our work.

Lastly, starting this new renaissance in a city that isn’t historically known as an epicenter of the arts has come with the challenge of shaping new avenues for creativity and opening up local venues to performance opportunities. One of the blessings coming out of the tumultuous last few years has been the reignited public desire for live music and Houston Ensemble is lucky to be positioned at the forefront of this demand. At the end of the day, our goal is the unification of all people through love, art, and discourse.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Houston Ensemble is a new renaissance movement that combines art, freedom of thought, and community outreach. We use our platform as a means of connecting people through music, podcasts, and live events. The Ensemble performs original music every day of the week across multiple legendary locations like Axelrad, 8th Wonder Brewery, The Ready Room, and Discovery Green. Our original music is a synthesis of contemporary urban styles like R&B, Neo-Soul, and popular dance genres.

Our podcast features renowned professionals from a wide range of fields, including world-famous musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Peter Bernstein, Troy Roberts, Lynn Seaton, Oz Noy, Dan Wilson, and more. Other guests at the top of the academic arena include Randall Carlson, Dr. Rick Strassman, Dr. Joseph Varon, and David Leebron (President of Rice University). We also feature scientists who are impacting the future of humanity. These include Kevin Kirby, a DOD and White House advisor, Dr. James Tour, a leading nanotech engineer, and Ash Heather, CEO of Epic Water Filters, who is at the forefront of water nano-purification in a time when we need it the most. Every guest that we have has given us and our audience invaluable information that will widen anyone’s perspective. Through our live performances and interviews, we are dedicated to uniting humanity and making the world a better place.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson we’ve learned along our journey is that courage is required to bring anything of value into the world, whether that is in music, art, science, or a new approach to policy. Houston Ensemble is willing to take risks and challenge our assumptions about modern life because we know there is no other way to bolster growth and progress in the humanities. We aspire to inspire like the great artists and thinkers of history who sacrificed not only their reputations but their very lives to protect the freedom of expression. Those are the timeless artists we commemorate today because they set the standard for maintaining and nurturing an inclusive and creative society.
