Today we’d like to introduce you to Imin Love.
Hi Imin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from Sacramento California. I was raised by two southern grandparents (One form Alabama & the other from Louisiana), my living situation as a child was unique given our generational divide but the bond that allowed our family unit to thrive was the sense of humor that we shared. We bridged this generational gap through sharing our taste in film, you could also say that making each other laugh was our “love language”.
After I graduated from Dillard University in New Orleans I began going to open mics and eventually started getting paid to perform stand-comedy. I’ve performed at a lengthy list of clubs around the country including Punchline Houston. I’ve also been in a few films including “The Conjuring Tapes” and “Rewind” which will be available on streaming platforms in 2027.
Every stage I’ve performed on, along with every script I’ve read, I’ve always approached my creative projects thinking “I hope my grandparents think this is funny”. I’m an old soul but I’m young at heart, me bringing that perspective to my projects is a love letter to my family. That connection to them fulfills me and gives my work purpose.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not been as smooth is looked. Perusing a comedy writing career involves taking time to examine your close relationships in an attempt to better understand yourself. Missing one parent in the early stages of your life isn’t ideal but missing both parents can be a challenging reality to except when you are coming of age.
I was fortunate enough to have a loving environment and a place to call home. I do, however have empathy and an enduring sense of compassion for anyone that was in foster care, an orphan, or generally displaced as a young person. I have developed a considerable amount of emotional resilience because of this experience.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a stand-up comedian, a writer, and a filmmaker. I am proud of the stage performances that I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to deliver. My convictions and my world view system sets me apart from my peers, however I share the same love for comedy as any other working or aspiring comedian.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
“Black Fortunes” by Shomari Wills & “Universe Down To Earth” by Neil deGrasse Tyson are books that I revisit often. These books inspire me and inform my perspective no matter how many times reference them. I also enjoy watching “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend”, this is a fun podcast/youtube channel starring former late night host Conan O’Brien who happens to be my favorite improvisor.
