Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacinta Ikegwuonu.
Hi Jacinta, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey has been shaped by hard work, perseverance, and a genuine love for bringing people together. As the daughter of immigrants, I grew up watching my parents work hard and make sacrifices to create a better life for their family. That work ethic became a big part of who I am and continues to motivate me today.
My love for event planning really grew from my natural joy of hosting, creating memorable experiences, and bringing people together. I’ve always been the person who enjoys planning celebrations, paying attention to the little details, and making sure everyone feels welcomed and included. What started as something I simply enjoyed doing for family and friends gradually became a passion and a business opportunity.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to plan and coordinate different types of events, each one teaching me something new about creativity, organization, people, and the importance of creating meaningful experiences. I love seeing an idea come to life and, even more, seeing the joy it brings to the people I’m planning it for.
Where I am today is a reflection of those early lessons from my parents, my love for people, and my willingness to work hard and take a chance on myself. I’m still growing, learning, and building, but I’m grateful for the journey and excited about what’s ahead.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many people, I’ve experienced seasons of uncertainty, setbacks, and moments when I questioned whether I was on the right path. Balancing family, responsibilities, and pursuing my own dreams has sometimes been challenging, and building something of my own has required a lot of patience and perseverance.
One of the biggest struggles has been learning to believe in myself and take the leap to turn something I genuinely love hosting, planning, and bringing people together into something bigger. There were times when things didn’t go as planned, but those experiences taught me to be adaptable, keep going, and trust the process.
Being the daughter of immigrants also taught me that success doesn’t happen overnight. I watched my parents work hard and overcome their own challenges, and that has always reminded me to keep pushing forward. The road hasn’t been perfect, but every challenge has helped shape me into the person and entrepreneur I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Professionally, I’m an event planner and creative who specializes in creating memorable, meaningful experiences that bring people together. My love for hosting and creating special moments naturally led me into event planning, where I enjoy taking an idea or vision and turning it into an experience that feels personal, intentional, and unforgettable.
In addition to my work in events, I recently earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Pursuing this degree was an important part of my personal and professional growth. It has strengthened my understanding of people, relationships, and the importance of creating spaces where others feel seen, supported, and valued. I believe those skills also complement my work as an event planner because events are ultimately about people and the experiences we create for them.
I’m known for being hands-on, detail-oriented, creative, and genuinely invested in the people I work with. I pay attention to the small details that can make a big difference, while also keeping the bigger vision in mind.
What I’m most proud of is building a career around something I truly love bringing people together. Whether I’m planning a celebration or creating a space for people to connect, I want the experience to be meaningful and memorable.
What sets me apart is that I don’t see event planning as simply coordinating decorations, vendors, or timelines. I see it as creating an experience and telling a story. My creativity, work ethic, attention to detail, understanding of people, and genuine love for bringing people together are what I believe make my approach unique.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as being able to look at my life and know that I’m living with purpose, making an impact, and staying true to who I am. Success isn’t just about financial accomplishments or titles for me. It’s about growth, creating opportunities, being able to provide for my family, and doing work that brings me fulfillment.
As the daughter of immigrants, I also see success as honoring the sacrifices my parents made and making the most of the opportunities they worked so hard to create for me. Earning my master’s degree, building my career, and turning my passion for hosting and bringing people together into something meaningful are all accomplishments I’m incredibly proud of.
Ultimately, success for me is being able to create a life where I can pursue my passions, inspire others, bring people together, and leave a positive impact wherever I go.
