Today we’d like to introduce you to Raven Maddison.
Hi Raven, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story really begins at 18. Right out of high school, I joined the military and stepped into the world of aviation. I was stationed in North Carolina, trained further at Fort Rucker, and eventually completed my service at an aviation base in Germany. Those three years shaped me in ways I’m still unpacking—they gave me discipline, structure, and technical skill, but they also came with emotional weight. I grew up fast. I became focused, but also restless, trying to figure out who I was beyond the uniform.
When I was discharged under honorable conditions, I chose the path that felt familiar: aviation. As a civilian, I worked my way into a role at Universal Aviation and Weather, starting as a logistics coordinator and quickly earning a promotion to mission advisor. That opportunity took me to Cincinnati—new city, new role, more money. On paper, everything looked like progress.
But internally, I was lost.
Despite working hard—showing up early, staying late, taking on more than my share—I felt unseen and unfulfilled. I coped in unhealthy ways, chasing validation and trying to hold onto a sense of control. During that time, I also experienced a traumatic event, and what followed made things clearer: there was no real support, no empathy—just an expectation to keep performing. I did, until I couldn’t ignore the weight of it anymore.
Eventually, after a misstep that could have been corrected in the workplace, I was put on probation under misleading circumstances and then let go shortly after. That moment forced me to pause and really look at my life. I realized that no matter how much you give to something that isn’t aligned with you, it may never give back—and sometimes, it can even take more from you.
So, I made a decision: I wasn’t going to keep investing my time and energy into something that didn’t fulfill me.
I went back to school to study digital communication with the initial goal of becoming an art director. But along the way, something shifted. I discovered a deep connection to storytelling and visual creation—acting, editing, animation, writing. I found real joy in taking ideas from my mind and bringing them to life on screen. That discovery led me to specialize in motion graphics, where I began working in both 2D and 3D animation and developing fluency across tools like After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Cinema 4D.
Today, my goal is to become an animated filmmaker—to tell stories that resonate, that reflect real experiences, and that connect with people on a deeper level. Long term, I want to build a full-service, turnkey studio where I can collaborate with other creatives and be part of the entire production process from start to finish.
Looking back, my journey hasn’t been linear, and it definitely hasn’t been easy. But every experience—especially the difficult ones—pushed me closer to understanding what matters to me. As a creative, I’ve learned that sometimes losing your way is the very thing that leads you to where you need to be.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I don’t think it’s supposed to be.
There have been moments where opportunities seemed to fall into my lap, where things came together without me forcing them. And then there have been moments on the complete opposite end—days that felt heavy, uncertain, and hard to push through. I’ve experienced both, sometimes back to back.
What I’ve learned is that life naturally comes with that contrast. There are seasons where everything flows, and others where you’re being challenged, stretched, and forced to grow. I’ve started to see those difficult moments not as setbacks, but as realignment. Sometimes you have to go through discomfort to get closer to who you’re meant to be and what you’re meant to do.
When I feel aligned—when I’m creating, when I’m moving with intention—things tend to open up more بسهولة. But even then, challenges don’t disappear. They just start to feel more purposeful.
So no, it hasn’t been easy—but I’m grateful for all of it. The ease and the struggle have both played a role in shaping my perspective, my resilience, and my creativity.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I consider myself a digital creator, with a current focus on 2D and 3D animation. My work lives at the intersection of storytelling and visual design—I’m drawn to building ideas from the ground up and bringing them to life in a way that feels intentional and emotionally grounded.
In school, I’ve become known for my editing style and the way I piece things together. I pay close attention to flow, timing, and how each moment connects to the next. For me, it’s not just about making something look good—it’s about making it feel right.
One of the projects I’m most proud of is a short film I created last semester. I was involved in every part of the process: acting, shaping the script, setting up lighting, and editing my own version from start to finish. That experience really confirmed for me that I enjoy being hands-on throughout the entire creative process and that I’m capable of carrying an idea all the way through.
What sets me apart is perspective. At the core, I’m like any other creative—I’m learning, experimenting, and growing. But the way I see the world, the way I interpret moments and translate them into visuals, that’s uniquely mine. And I think that authenticity is what ultimately separates any artist from the rest.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If you’re looking to work with me, collaborate, or support what I do, the best way to reach me is through Instagram or LinkedIn—specifically my creative page, @RavenInMotion. That’s where I’ll be sharing my work, creative process, and everything I’m building in animation and film.
I’m always open to connecting with other creatives, whether it’s collaborating on projects, exchanging ideas, or just building with people who see the world in a similar way. I value genuine collaboration—where everyone brings their perspective to the table and creates something bigger than themselves.
For direct inquiries, you can also reach me by email at [email protected].
Right now, I’m focused on growing, creating, and telling stories that feel real—so any support, connection, or opportunity to collaborate is something I truly appreciate.
