Today we’d like to introduce you to Shunta Etheridge.
Hi Shunta, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Im not going to sit her or start of by saying, I started photography because I wanted to capture the moments in my kids life. I had a camera in my hand way before my kids were thought of lol. Photography was always a passion of mine and it was something I wanted to venture more into. Mind you this was when we had disposable cameras and film that you had to take to Walgreens or somewhere to get them developed and wait a couple day before they had the one hour. I might be telling my age a little here lol, but when they came out with cameras with memory cards it was a rap. I have always felt like having pictures of your family on the wall were way better than just decorative pictures. Not saying it’s anything wrong with that because I still have those too, but pictures of you and your kids and family is something that runs deeper. When my oldest two graduated I still wasn’t taking it to the full potential, Not until my daughter hit 9th grade and I knew it was a true true passion. I looked up and started joining a lot of groups for photographers and mainly focused on high school and high school seniors. That is really my go to, but I love young adults as well for a little more out the box photography. I started to create a group from my daughter and some of her close friends as models and the face of my brand and it was a hit. I would do a whole meet up and we did one that was a full day almost with a lunch break and they had a ball!!! People around school was seeing it and wanted to know how they could join. From there it went so many different ways from having some do a T.V commercial and in fashion shows that people asked if they could be in. I loved that for them but yet at the end of the program especially the seniors we did their senior shoot.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been an easy road because with life i stopped at some point and then went back to starting back up, and with that starting back up I had to advertise and look for a whole new crew. To be honest im shy to a point but not when I’m actually working if that make scenes, but going out asking or even if I see someone it’s hard for me to ask but I just feel getting back into advertising will help
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Im actually a store manger in a retail store, but it helps because when I have an idea for a shoot I actually buy a lot of things for my girls to shoot in.
Any big plans?
My biggest plan is really just doing photography as my full time. It’s really where I’m relaxed and comfortable
