Daily Inspiration: Meet Basia Gurtowski and Kasia Tran with Revelry Goods.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Basia Gurtowski Kasia Tran.

Hi Basia Gurtowski, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We are first generation Polish Americans and we were raised with a strong Polish culture that has deeply influenced who we are today. In the Polish community there was always a celebration going on and we attended many parties. Our mom was always involved in either the food, floral or the decorating of the party. She was very much into the details which we have adopted from her and don’t know any other way.

Always being involved in parties, our mom decided to design and build a beautiful event venue where we hosted gorgeous weddings, events and festivities. We helped run these events for 12 years. We learned the ins and outs of having a space and how events are run. Kasia became a logistics queen while running the venue and her buisness degree from University of Houston came in clutch. Numbers and logistics are her favorite thing. Basia went a different direction for a fine art major at Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She loves dabbling in creativity whenever she can. Our mom then decided to sell the venue and we continued the event world with customized parties.

We began as a online party shop in hopes to then open up a brick and mortar store. To promote our buisness we participated in markets to help spread our name out. We would sponsor the decor at these markets and folks were interested in us doing decor for their personal parties. And that’s when the event decor took over and the rest is history.

Today we have the opportunity for creating events from everything from intimate parties to big corporate events. Each event we take on we strive to be better than the last. We always challenge ourselves in creating something new and never repeat the same event exactly. We absolutley love what we do and love to see the reaction of clients and guests when they see the finished product. Every finished intstall makes us so happy because sometimes we prep events for months so it is the best feeling to see it come to life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha love this question. Does anything ever go smoothly? Our journey to where we are now has not been an easy one. But we feel that if we didn’t get through all the obstacles we would not have the knowledge we have today.

When we finally sold our family venue and we were ready to go full force with Revelry Goods so we decided to do a a funny music video and photo brand shoot. We are pretty silly and we had a hoverboard in the mix and Basia broke her wrist because it was spinning too quickly. It is funny now, but then it was a set back especially since we were just getting started.

We were working out of Basia’s home in the beginning years and so that had taken over Basia’s home and was a struggle.
Shortly after we just got our studio space in 2020 the world got hit with Covid. So we had to shift and adapt to doing events during that time which was tricky espcially since the business we are in involves people gathering together and Covid rules brought people away from each other.

So we would say we have had a good amount of struggles along the way. We always have a bump in the road, but we presevere and take it head on and in the end we are stronger.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Revelry Goods is a bespoke custom event decor buisness. We are artists and designers and we design, create and install our work at private homes, businesses, restarurants, venues and other places you may have an event. We also love making more permanant pieces of art that can be displayed in public areas. We love to play with all kinds of materials and bring our imagination to life. Our motto has always been to say yes and figure it out later. We can proudly say we have never let any of our clients down. We are proud of each and every install we execute and always bring our best game no matter how small or how big. We always want to keep up with our high standards with our focus to details and execution. The details for each and every event we do is what sets us apart from others.

How do you define success?
That’s a hard question because we feel success can be defined in many ways. Success for us is having a nicely fueled running machine. That means that everyone on our team is working as a family and getting along. If there are ever any conflicts on our team we like to nip those in the butt quick and not leave things like that lingering around. We would also say success is achieved for us if the client is beyond happy and that our install is more than they were expecting. We love those types of reactions. The best compliment we could get is by word of mouth inquiries. We love being recomended by others and that being how someone had heard about us. Success is also making sure our employees are happy with what they are doing behind the scenes and ways we can improve and be better. We are not perfect and are always striving to improve, but we feel we have a great foundation set.
