Daily Inspiration: Meet Brandi Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Brooks

Hi Brandi , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an Actor born and raised in Missouri City, Tx. As a kid, I loved commercials. I could recite every single commercial line by line. I’ve always wanted to get into acting since childhood but I never had the right resources. I took theatre in middle school and high school but I was not taking my craft serious. I was under the impression I had to go to college and graduate, find a job, and live happy ever after. That was not good enough for me. I wanted more for myself. I got an acting coach, Charnele Brown, and now my career has taken off. The path isn’t easy. You must put in alot of hard work and study hours. You will hear more “NO” than “YES” but you cannot get discouraged. I have been doing this for about 3 years. I can honestly say I am proud of myself for getting this far. I still have a long way to go. Im enjoying the journey.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! Throughout my acting career, I have experienced death, heartbreak, betrayal, sickness, and depression. I am in a much better place today than I was 6 months ago. At one point my career was at a standstill. I got booked for a major commercial, then nothing. Ghost. It is discouraging but you have to learn to keep going. I would not be where I am today without God.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
From 9-5 Monday- Friday, I am an Account Manager for a Waste Company. But I am an Actor 24/7. The goal is to quit my 9-5 and act full time. Some of my characters include Officer Frankie (This Christmas Chance) , Brittany (Bruised 2), Nurse (Dream Girl Deferred ), Big Vic (Shattered Dreams) plus various background roles including a Powerade commercial.
What sets me apart from others is my willingness to say the uncomfortable things out loud. You have to very alert in this business or film makers will take advantage of you. Never be afraid to speak up for yourself.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Trust God. Follow his path. He will never lead you in the wrong direction nor will he give you more than you can bear.
