Hi Chris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I went to college in illionois at Devry, i came to Texas to work in the medical industry training under my Uncle who was a HE CT veteran. I worked for them til they sold the company 8 years later, then for the new company for a few years, then started my own company. I have been in Houston for 19 years now fixing GE Catscans
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There was definitely a learning curve, and I had some diet related health problems in my early twenties which did not help. When i started my company it was a rollercoaster. I had no money saved and no idea where my next check was coming from, so for about 6 months it was terrifying. I attribute my success in the beginning to God. I still have no idea how I did not end up homeless
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I fix GE medical equipment primarily radiation equipment. Catscans, bone density, x-ray, c arms.
I have always been interested in how things work. Some of the stuff I work on, i just started taking apart, and figuring out issues. I much prefer having schematics. It is however, fun to delve into issues and figure them out.
I was always on the engineering side of the business so I take some pride my transparency. I over explain the business side to people who care to know, and if they are willing to listen. It often saves them a lot of money.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Its hard to say, the OEMs are trying to make us obsolete, and they have very anti right to repair practices. I am just hoping they dont find a legal way to cut out their competition. It will not be for lack of trying.
AI will likely reduce salaries for people like me, you will no longer need to train for near as long, or have the same knowledge base.
On the bright side, everyone needs at least one expert, for the harder things, that even if you are told how to do it, you likely still couldnt
