Today we’d like to introduce you to Guy Lance.
Hi Guy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Established in 2018, we’re a veteran-owned, Texas-based small business making handcrafted custom woodwork and heirlooms. Each creation is meticulously crafted with care, combining the timeless beauty of wood with the mesmerizing allure of vibrant resin. From custom pieces to intricate decor, our shop is dedicated to bringing your vision to life, adding a touch of artistry and elegance to your space.
Each of our products is carefully handcrafted, and in the case of the canes, we use recycled wood generously donated by friends, family, and other local community members. By breathing new life into materials like old Christmas trees, fallen local trees, and sentimental or worn-out wooden furniture, each creation becomes a distinctive piece with a story to tell. We strive to create unique pieces that honor sustainability and the art of giving new purpose to old wood.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course we have had challenges. The cost of materials, loss of my job, early retirement, cost of shipping. All these things come into play. We have a desire to continue our work as Canes for Vets and continue to supply a cane to any veteran that wants one at NO CHARGE. This has been our mission for the last 6 years. We do wood turning, epoxy resin projects and much more to support this work and we are proud and honored to continue to provide these canes and other products.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I worked in automotive sales for the bulk of my career. Started as a salesperson and worked in every management position in a car dealership. I moved to software training for the last 11 years of my career.
My woodworking is centered around the Canes for Vets project. We have sent out over 300 canes over the last 5 years. Although we have received accolades and thanks for the canes we have sent, we feel we are the ones that are truly blessed to be able to provide these special gifts for those who have served.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Houston, and The Woodlands in particular, is a vibrant and very special area of Texas. It is business friendly and is constantly growing.
