Today we’d like to introduce you to Kourtney Dolliole.
Hi Kourtney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Kourtney aka Koko, and my journey has been about learning to believe in myself and not letting anything define what I can or cannot do. I’ve always loved dancing, and I started dancing when I was five, but I didn’t begin taking formal dance classes until 2025. From there, I started pushing myself into new spaces, performing, choreographing, and creating content that combines dance and ASL.
Being Deaf has shaped so much of who I am, but I never wanted it to be something that held me back. I wanted to show people that Deaf people can dance, create, perform, and chase their dreams just like anyone else. Through social media, I’ve been able to share my story, advocate for ASL and Deaf awareness, and connect with people who may see themselves in me.
I’ve gone from simply loving dance to getting opportunities I never imagined, meeting people who inspire me, and continuing to grow as a dancer, choreographer, and creator. I’m still figuring things out and growing every day, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Being Deaf has come with challenges, especially in spaces where communication isn’t always accessible. Dance can already be intimidating, and sometimes I’ve had to work twice as hard to learn choreography, communicate with others, and feel like I belong in certain spaces. I’ve also struggled with self doubt and wondering if I was capable of reaching the goals I dreamed about.
But instead of letting those challenges stop me, I started using them as motivation. I realized I didn’t need to fit into someone else’s idea of what a dancer or creator should look like. I could create my own path and use my Deafness and ASL as part of my strength. Every obstacle has pushed me to become more confident, speak up for myself, and remind others that being Deaf doesn’t mean you have to limit your dreams.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Deaf dancer, choreographer, content creator, and performer. I specialize in combining dance and ASL to create content that allows people to experience music and movement in a different way. I’ve been dancing since I was five, and I began taking formal dance classes in 2025, which pushed me to take my passion more seriously and step into choreography, performances, and creative opportunities.
I’m most known for incorporating ASL into dance and music, while also using my platform to bring awareness to the Deaf community and show that Deaf people belong in creative spaces. I’m most proud of how I’ve turned something that could have been seen as a limitation into something that makes my art unique. What sets me apart is that I don’t just dance to music, I find my own way to communicate it through movement and sign language.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d just want readers to know that your differences don’t have to be your limitations. Being Deaf has taught me to see the world differently, and I’ve learned to embrace that instead of hiding it. I want to continue creating, dancing, performing, and using my platform to make people feel seen and remind the Deaf community that we belong in every space.
I’m still growing and figuring out where this journey will take me, but I’m proud of the person I’m becoming. If my story can inspire even one person to believe in themselves and go after something they once thought was impossible, then everything I’ve been through is worth it.
