Daily Inspiration: Meet Necy Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Necy Thomas.

Necy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been artistically inclined. I used to draw every day as a kid. I was gifted art sets for Christmas and birthdays, and I even took a few art classes in school. As I became an adult, I drew a lot less; my practice became much more sporadic. I was never a fan of painting in particular, as I found it quite challenging. However, one day during the pandemic, I felt a sudden urge to paint. I went to the store, bought supplies, and created my first painting. I had no particular direction or idea in mind, and there was nothing special about what I created. Still, I found it quite satisfying, and it birthed a desire to paint even more. Eventually, I started to challenge myself to see what else I could create. Soon, after attending numerous art shows and exhibits as a consumer, I decided to finally showcase the artwork I have created throughout the years.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say yes, it has been a smooth road thus far. Most of the challenges have been with myself. As an artist who initially started this as a hobby and now runs it as a business, I sometimes struggle with the idea of creating what I want versus what I feel people want to see all while trying to perfect my craft and be better each time I create something new.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a painter and sketch artist. I’m most known for my paintings. I’m most proud of showcasing my art for the world to see, regardless of how “ready” I feel. I think what sets me apart is my desire to illustrate what I feel versus leaning towards what’s trending.
