We recently had the chance to connect with Elena Loviea and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Elena , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I lose track of time when I’m painting or creating art outside the diamond trade. I also enjoy volunteering at community centers to teach art classes and share that creative spark with others.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My passion is rooted in jewelry design, shaped by my background in the diamond trade where I studied and specialized in jewelry construction. Over time, I discovered inspiration in the simple beauty of a coffee bean! Something so small yet rich in depth and meaning. This sparked the foundation of my brand, where designs often reflect warm tones of cognac browns, champagnes, and white diamonds set in yellow gold. Each piece captures everyday elegance, inspired by the simplicity of moments like enjoying a cup of coffee, with the people that inspire you.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I started designing jewelry with stones I found at local trade shows. Each piece felt like it told its own story, and it became my passion to create. Jewelry became my outlet, a way to express myself and turn inspiration into something lasting and beautiful, which led me to pursue it further in college and through the Gemological Instruction of America.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that having a creative mind is a strength, not a weakness. Don’t let anyone make you believe that art can’t be a career, because it truly can. Your creativity will become your greatest tool, and one day it will open doors and shape the path you’re meant to follow.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Lab-grown vs natural diamonds is often debated, with some calling lab diamonds “fake” and natural diamonds “real.” The truth is both are real diamonds, just created in different ways—one in a lab, the other in the earth. They differ in price range and clarity, which makes the conversation largely about budget and personal preference.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not creating a community and an art gallery space where people could come together to showcase their work and learn from one another. Teaching and sharing the arts is something I believe brings people closer and inspires future generations, and I want to make sure I leave that behind.
