Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Barba.
Hi Carla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my journey as a baby boutique owner right after I had my first son in 2020. I always knew I wanted to start my own clothing boutique, and after years of brainstorming and studying how to start and own a business, my dream didn’t really get put to work until I had my son. I became obsessed with shopping for baby clothes, but was very limited on options for baby boys at the local retail stores. All other small business stores were charging an arm and a leg for baby clothing, so it was then when I came up with a baby boutique that was affordable and unique to what we are used to seeing at a retail store.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. As I am still trying to find the balance between being a wife, mom, and a full time employee at my 9-5 job.
That is the hardest thing about running this boutique, is finding time for each of my commitments.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My baby boutique specializes mainly in baby & toddler clothing for both girls and boys. What sets me apart from others is that most of my items are priced below $20.00, making my boutique affordable for everybody, as well as providing the best quality material. I am bilingual and provide services for both English and Spanish speaking clients. I am located in Houston and I try to attend as many markets to put my name and brand out there.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
As busy as my life is, none of my success would be possible without the support of my husband. He has supported me throughout the whole process and helps package orders as needed, helps sets up everything at pop up markets, and makes sure our son is well taken care of while I am busy creating content, shopping for my boutique, adding tags to clothes, packaging orders, etc.
