Exploring Life & Business with Casey Casteel of Casteel Educational Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Casteel.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story has definitely not taken a linear path, but each path has helped prepare me for where I am now. I started my career as a teacher with plans to become a child therapist. Although I no longer teach regularly; I do identify truly as an educator! I worked in a variety of capacities as a teacher- preschool, kindergarten, the Arts, and special education in area private, public and charter schools; including speciality schools for students with learning differences and a therapeutic school for students with social and emotional needs. I have always been drawn to the support area of education and love helping students make connections in learning and building confidence and awareness. After more than a decade of teaching, I returned to graduate school for counseling. At the same time, in 2007, I started my first educational business teaching enrichment classes such as Art, Movement, Dance and Yoga in Houston area schools. Over the span of years, I had the privilege to bring my passions to students and learned so much about the educational landscape and school personalities. I have always been curious, and loved learning everything about the schools I visited. Before deciding to finally return to finish graduate school full time, my teaching and training had led me to visit over 60 area schools and educational organizations. During graduate school, I concurrently took continuing education hours in play and expressive arts therapy. I know the power of play and art in helping support individuals. Upon graduation, I moved into roles as private school counselor, learning specialist, private therapy practices, and additional educator training roles. With such a varied background, I had many interests, but didn’t find a role that really allowed me to incorporate my passion for combining mental health and education. Additionally, I was often asked questions about schools and resources and wanted to find ways to share my knowledge. I first launched Casteel Educational Consulting to provide school selection consulting, in a way that was different from previous models, really focusing on the specific needs of individual families. I later added in Adhd, executive function and parent coaching; social development groups, as well as expanded my teacher training and school support services to also find more ways to support families with their specific needs.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
WIth such a non-linear path, I have enjoyed how much I have learned and the amazing people I have met along the way, However, The road hasn’t always been smooth. As a multi-passionate person that works in varied areas, it can be hard for people to understand what I do, as well as why and how I do it; which I think is most important. I love chatting with people about my work, but since what I do for a living doesn’t fit neatly in one sentence or title, it can be harder to find the people that would be the best fit for support.
As a solo-prenuer, I run all aspects of the business myself, but working directly with clients is always my favorite part so I try to prioritize my client time which can make it challenging to do other necessary things like marketing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am passionate about supporting people in their school and life struggles. I help families find their best fit school in Houston. I also support individuals with ADHD and Executive function coaching; social development groups; and school support services such as teacher training , parent education and classroom support, I specialize in working with individuals that value and crave authentic information and education.

What sets me apart is how I work directly with the individual and unique needs of each client and genuinely care about their successes. One size doesn’t fit all in any area, but especially with people. I learn about clients’ specific needs and meet them in those areas to support their specific and unique goals. I am a lifelong learner and am constantly learning more about areas that can help support the needs of my clients. I am also playful and fun in my approach to all services.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
