Today we’d like to introduce you to Chisom.
Hi Chisom, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from Nigeria, and in 2009, I came to the United States with a passion, a dream, and a deep love for soccer. I didn’t know exactly where the journey would take me, but I believed in the gift God had given me and was willing to work hard for the opportunity to pursue my dream.
Through faith, dedication, sacrifice, and countless hours on the field, I was blessed with the opportunity to play soccer professionally. My playing career taught me much more than the game itself. It taught me discipline, resilience, leadership, humility, teamwork, and the importance of never giving up, even when the journey gets difficult.
When my playing career came to an end, I knew that my purpose with soccer was not finished. I wanted to take everything I had learned and use it to serve others. That vision led me to start Ogbonna Soccer Training, with the goal of helping young athletes develop not only as soccer players, but also as confident, disciplined, responsible, and purpose-driven individuals.
Over the years, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to train and mentor many professional athletes, aspiring professionals, and young players who have dreams of their own. Every player I work with reminds me of where I started and the people who believed in me along the way. It is a privilege to help others recognize their potential, develop their abilities, and understand that their circumstances do not have to define their future.
Ogbonna Soccer Training recently celebrated 10 years, and reaching that milestone has been incredibly meaningful. What started as a passion has grown into something much bigger than soccer. It has become a platform for mentorship, personal development, community, and service.
Giving back has always been an important part of our mission. We believe that our blessings are meant to be shared, and we’ve made it a priority to serve our community in meaningful ways. From supporting people experiencing homelessness to providing meals and resources to those in need, we want our impact to extend beyond the soccer field.
For me, success has never been only about how many games I played, how many athletes I trained, or how many accomplishments I could put on a résumé. True success is being able to use what God has given you to make a difference in someone else’s life.
Soccer gave me an opportunity to pursue a dream when I came to this country, and today, I’m grateful to have the opportunity to help others pursue theirs. Whether it’s helping a young player improve their skills, encouraging an athlete who is facing challenges, mentoring the next generation, or simply serving someone in need, I believe every opportunity to positively impact another person is a blessing.
I’m deeply grateful for how far God has brought me from Nigeria to the United States, from chasing my own dream to helping others chase theirs. My journey has reminded me that when you combine faith, hard work, perseverance, and purpose, your gift can become a blessing to many people.
As I look toward the future, my vision is to continue growing Ogbonna Soccer Training, reaching more young athletes, creating more opportunities, giving back to the community, and building a lasting legacy through soccer.
I don’t take any of it for granted. I’m simply grateful to use the gift God gave me to serve my purpose, inspire others, open doors, and make a positive impact one player, one family, and one community at a time.
The dream started with soccer, but the purpose is so much bigger than the game.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. My journey has been filled with challenges, setbacks, sacrifices, and moments when I had to remind myself why I started. Building Ogbonna Soccer Training brought a different set of challenges. Building a business from the ground up takes patience, consistency, and a willingness to keep going even when you don’t immediately see the results. There were times when I had to make sacrifices, overcome doubt, and continue believing in the vision.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that obstacles don’t mean you should stop they are often part of the process of becoming who you are meant to be. My faith, family, work ethic, and passion for helping others have kept me moving forward.
Today, I look at the challenges differently. Every difficult season helped prepare me for the next one. The struggles I experienced as a player and entrepreneur have made me a better coach and mentor because I understand what it feels like to chase a dream, face setbacks, and keep pushing forward.
I’m grateful for the journey because it has allowed me to use the gift God gave me to impact young athletes and give back to the community. What started as my dream has become an opportunity to help others pursue theirs.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m the founder and head coach of Ogbonna Soccer Training, where we focus on developing soccer players through purposeful, technical training. I specialize in player development, with an emphasis on ball mastery, first touch, ball control, dribbling, passing, finishing, decision-making, and helping players understand the game at a deeper level.
My journey into coaching started from my own experience as a player. I came to the United States from Nigeria in 2009 with a dream of playing professional soccer. Through faith, hard work, sacrifice, and dedication, I was blessed with the opportunity to play professionally. That experience taught me what it takes to develop as an athlete not just physically, but mentally and emotionally.
Today, I use those experiences to help the next generation. I’ve had the privilege of training many talented and professional athletes, but what makes me most proud is seeing a young player grow in confidence, develop new skills, and begin to believe in themselves.
What sets Ogbonna Soccer Training apart is our philosophy: “We train different. We coach with purpose. We build the complete player.” I don’t just want players to perform a drill; I want them to understand why they are doing it and how to transfer those skills into a real game.
I’m also passionate about giving back to the community. For me, coaching is bigger than soccer. It’s about using the gift God gave me to serve others, create opportunities, mentor young athletes, and make a positive impact in the lives of players and families.
I’m most proud that what started as a personal dream has grown into a platform where I can help others pursue theirs. That, to me, is the true meaning of success.

I enjoy resources that help me grow personally, professionally, and as a coach. I’m especially interested in soccer development, leadership, business, and personal growth. I also value podcasts and social media content that share knowledge, motivation, and real-life experiences. Most importantly, my faith in God is a major source of guidance and motivation in both my life and career.
