Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Colburn Prado.
Daniela, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Daniela Colburn Prado, MEd, NCC, LPC. My last name is one last name, two separate words. I decided to take in my husband’s last name (Colburn) and keep my maiden name (Prado). As a Mexican-American, having two last names is one of the many things I feel proud of!
I have an Associate’s Degree with a concentration in Child Development from Houston Community College and graduated in 2006, I obtained my Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from the University of St. Thomas, HTX in 2009, and my Master’s of Education in Clinical Mental Health from the University of Houston-Victoria in 2016. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC #77753), and a National Certified Counselor (NCC #833032). I am fluent in both English and Spanish. I specialize in helping children, adolescents, and their families who struggle with trauma, specifically sexual abuse, violence, and neglect. My clinical experience includes assisting children, adolescents, and adults in psychotherapy in individual, family, and group settings.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an immigrant has it’s challenges. It has not been an easy road and I am proud to be one of the few bilingual and bicultural Licensed Professional Counselors in our State of Texas. I am so blessed to have the mentors I had including my parents, professors, bosses, supervisors, that helped me reach my goals and I have worked so hard to get to where I am. I love helping my Hispanic community and helping them navigate the difficulties they go through after a sexual abuse.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Care4Minds Counseling, PLLC?
