Today we’d like to introduce you to David Selvin.
Hi David, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I come from a good family but life hit hard after my parents divorced. We went from comfortable to broke, and I ended up in the streets. By my teens, I was deep into gangs, addiction, and crime. I made millions hustling illegally but nearly lost everything. My family, my freedom, and my life. We were homeless at one point, living in motels with my wife and kids.
What changed me was my son. Watching him mirror everything I did made me question who I was becoming. That’s when I walked away from the streets and started over. I fixed my credit, discovered business funding, and used it to get into real estate. I bought my first property with business credit using no personal money and no banks. That deal changed my life.
I built Selvin Financial to teach others how to do the same. I’ve helped thousands repair their credit, build strong business profiles, and secure millions in funding to launch and grow their businesses.
My mission now is to show people how to stop chasing money and start building wealth the real way. Through credit, funding, and real estate.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve faced major challenges, from financial hardship and broken family dynamics to making life decisions I had to later correct. There was a time my family and I were homeless, and I had to completely rebuild my life, credit, and mindset from the ground up. I struggled with confidence in the beginning. I didn’t have a blueprint. I had to learn how to navigate credit, funding, and real estate the hard way: through experience, failure, and persistence. Most people didn’t see the vision at first. I had to push through the doubts and keep building anyway.

What sets us apart is that everything we teach comes from experience. I’ve lived the process of rebuilding credit, finding funding, and using it to build a life. Now I show others how to do the same and get results.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I absolutely believe in good luck. There are moments in my life and business where things lined up in ways I couldn’t explain right people, right opportunities, right timing. But I also believe luck favors those who are willing to take action. You can’t sit back and wait for luck to show up. You have to be moving, learning, and putting yourself in position to receive it.
There were times I should’ve given up but a phone call came through, a connection was made, or something just shifted. I’ve had deals fall into place, clients appear out of nowhere, and doors open when I needed them most. That wasn’t just strategy that was divine timing, favor, and yes, good luck.
But luck alone doesn’t build a business. You need preparation, faith, and the courage to keep showing up. I’ve been lucky, but I’ve also been ready when luck showed up. And that’s what made all the difference.
