Exploring Life & Business with Hope Conley of Elite Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hope Conley.

Hi Hope, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Hope Conley. I am a Licensed Esthetician currently based in Dallas, TX but I got my start in my hometown of Jackson, TN. My passion for esthetics began in 2017 when I took interest in makeup. Shortly after I started an aesthetic program, I fell in love with all things skin; and thus Elite Esthetics was born. I have since dedicated myself to furthering my knowledge, skillset and experience in hopes to better serve my clients. I provide black women with luxury skincare and waxing services to achieve optimal skin health and self-care.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has definitely had its ups and downs along the way, but the love for what I do makes it worth it. There’s been challenges with clients, setting boundaries as a new business owner and being in the aesthetic field period. It’s difficult to enter into a career that’s been dominated by Caucasian women for so long as a Black woman. At the beginning of my journey, I found myself trying to “prove my worth” for so long because I thought I had to. Thankfully, I’ve transitioned from that mindset and I’m focused on being a better service provider and business owner for my clients and my future.

As you know, we’re big fans of Elite Esthetics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I offer services in corrective skin care, waxing and yoni steaming. I really enjoy skincare the most; facials are the services that I get to put my entire emotion into my work. I am however still learning more about skincare, so I’m not exactly where I want to be yet. Waxing is my most popular service. At first I didn’t care for it, but I got really good and I enjoy it just as much as skincare. I take pride in being the waxer that goes the extra mile to get every little hair. What sets me apart in this industry is simply my energy. I don’t do any services structurally different than any other professional, but I do strongly feel that the services I offer are highly intimate; thus I do my best to create a safe space for my clients to let loose and be their truest selves. What I’m most proud about in my business is the growth! I went from having a single 16oz wax pot, a towel warmer and a handful of clients to owning a business that’s serviced over 225 women in 2 1/2 years. I’m only just beginning and it’s up from here!

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
My protocols prior to Covid-19 were pretty standard and I was always a stickler about cleanliness. If I learned anything about my business and how I operate, it was to put even more time and care into each service. I think Covid-19 shifted me into a place of creating intensely personalized services that require a lot more attention to detail. I now try to make each appointment an entire elite experience; not just the time slot that you paid for.
