Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristi Delafuente.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a first-generation college graduate from Sam Houston University! In my former life, I was a middle school pre-algebra teacher and volleyball coach for 4 years! In my last year of teaching, I obtained my real estate license with intention of using it for our own transactions… which I put to good use with 10+ moves in just 5 years. 🙂 I am now the proud Broker/Owner of JNK Property Group! I was a teacher turned landlord, and self-managed our first investment that was a triplex in the Heights which we “house hacked.” In the last 3 years, I have created a real estate investment company with my husband, property managed our properties, overseeing a new construction build, and best of all started a family. I have boots-on-the-ground experience in each of the investments my husband and I make. I believe with each of my personal experiences I have developed a specific skill set with each property and always willing to share or learn from. I am a mother, wife, at times a counselor, problem solver and trusted advisor. In real estate, similar to teaching and parenting, there are times when I am wearing 10+ hats but over the years I have grown to realize ultimately real estate is about relationships!!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! How does the saying go, “if it was easy everyone would be doing it?” The statistics in real estate alone are against you in the first 1-2 years. Starting any business the first years are crucial. Fear of failure is real. I am my own worst critic. If a deal fell through, I was at fault and blamed myself. There are so many moving parts in real estate and I have grown to realize each transaction is different and each has its own set of challenges. Each deal is part of a larger learning process. I could not let the fear of failure dictate each transaction. This is how progress happens! Every obstacle presents an opportunity to push yourself harder, let go of that fear and decide to OWN that moment!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
JNK Property Group is a family-owned business headquartered in Houston, Texas. I started in residential real estate, and along the way, our investments entered into the multifamily space. We now work on the acquisition, and stabilization of each property. Accomplished a full cycle value add acquisition to sale and exit of 3 multifamily properties here in Houston. We acquired a 35-unit multifamily earlier this year and hired a full time hands on project manager. We are your strategic partners guiding you through making wise real estate investing decisions.
What makes you happy?
There is nothing that makes me happier in this world than my family. My husband and I have been married for 5 years. I have two boys, my oldest almost 5 and youngest 2.5 and every single experience is 1,000% better with them. Kids are funny, not always easy, but SO MUCH FUN! They don’t forget anything, chicken nuggets were promised, we better be getting chicken nuggets if they had a great week at school. We just bought them new fishing poles and a cute little tackle box (I will take the credit for the cuteness added tackle box, not so much the fish), you better believe we will be out fishing multiple times this weekend:) I can’t pour into them without filling my own cup first. The same goes into my business…. with that being said releasing HAPPY endorphins is a MUST, dedicating 3-4 workouts of my time to myself through out the week makes a huge difference!
