Exploring Life & Business with Obinna Nwadike of Global Drilling Resources

Today we’d like to introduce you to Obinna Nwadike.

Hi Obinna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey has really been built around persistence, relationships, and a willingness to take opportunities even when there was no guarantee they would work out.

I started Global Drilling Resources with the goal of building a company that could become a trusted partner to the energy industry. In the beginning, like most entrepreneurs, I had to wear many hats. I was involved in business development, sourcing, operations, client relationships, and everything else required to keep the company moving forward. There were plenty of challenges along the way, but each one taught me something about business, people, and resilience.

Over time, we began developing relationships with major companies in the oil and gas industry and expanding the services and products we could provide. What started as a business focused primarily on procurement and drilling-related equipment has grown into a broader energy services company supporting clients with equipment, MRO materials, technical services, manpower, marine and aviation support, and other specialized solutions.

One of the things I’m most proud of is that we didn’t limit ourselves geographically. From our base in Houston, we began pursuing opportunities internationally, particularly across Africa, the Middle East, South America, and other emerging energy markets. Today, Global Drilling Resources has established a presence in multiple countries and has worked with or supported some of the most recognized companies in the energy sector.

Getting here has definitely not been a straight line. There have been great years and difficult years, contracts we won and opportunities we lost, and many situations where I had to adapt quickly. Entrepreneurship teaches you that success isn’t just about having a great idea. It’s about staying consistent, protecting your reputation, building genuine relationships, and continuing to move forward when things don’t happen as quickly as you expected.

I still consider the company a work in progress. My goal has never simply been to build a successful business; I want to build an organization with a strong international reputation that creates opportunities for people and can compete anywhere in the world.

When I look back at where we started compared with where we are today, I’m grateful for the journey, but I’m even more excited about what we’re building next.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Entrepreneurship comes with a lot of uncertainty, especially in the energy industry. There have been contracts that were delayed, opportunities that didn’t work out, cash flow challenges, and the difficulties that come with expanding into international markets.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t allow setbacks to define you. You have to adapt, stay persistent, and keep moving forward. I’ve also learned how important relationships, integrity, and reputation are in business.

Looking back, the difficult moments have taught me some of my most valuable lessons and ultimately made me a stronger entrepreneur and leader.

As you know, we’re big fans of Global Drilling Resources. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Global Drilling Resources is a Houston-based energy services company with an international footprint. We specialize in procurement, MRO materials, drilling and production equipment, technical services, manpower, marine and aviation support, and customized solutions for the oil and gas industry.

What sets us apart is our ability to respond quickly and find solutions to difficult requirements. Our clients often come to us when they need specialized equipment, hard-to-source materials, or support across multiple countries. We have built a strong network of manufacturers, suppliers, and industry partners that allows us to serve customers in the United States and internationally, particularly across Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

What I’m most proud of is the reputation and relationships we’ve built. In this industry, trust is extremely important. We want Global Drilling Resources to be known as a company that is responsive, dependable, resourceful, and willing to go the extra mile for its clients.

We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but we’re still growing. Our vision is to continue expanding globally while maintaining the personal service and entrepreneurial mindset that helped build the company in the first place.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is integrity, family, relationships, and leaving a meaningful legacy. Success is important, but I believe how you achieve it and how you treat people along the way matters even more.

I want to continue building something that creates opportunities for others, makes a positive impact, and can outlive me. At the end of the day, I want to be remembered not only for what I accomplished, but for the value I created and the people I helped along the way.
