Exploring Life & Business with Scott Nguyen of Boosted Race Lab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Nguyen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been passionate about cars. Growing up, I knew I wanted to do something in the automotive industry, but I wasn’t sure what direction I could take that I would genuinely enjoy while also making an honest living.

I originally started detailing cars, but I quickly realized I was mostly working on vehicles that didn’t really spark my interest. That’s when I decided to pivot and start working more on my own personal cars. As I became more involved and continued learning, it naturally led me to working on higher-end and performance vehicles, including Toyota Supras, BMW M3s and M4s, and other enthusiast cars.

Over time, that passion turned into something much bigger for me, and I realized I really enjoy the combination of working with cars, learning new things, and helping other enthusiasts get the most out of their vehicles.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Truthfully, with any business, things are never completely smooth. Everyone runs into obstacles along their journey as a business owner, and one of the biggest challenges I’ve personally struggled with is finding a healthy balance between the business and my family.

When my wife and I had our daughter, finding time to spend with them became especially difficult. At the time, and honestly even now, it can be challenging to step away from the business and make sure I’m giving my family the time they deserve. Thankfully, it’s become a little more manageable as we’ve grown and I’ve learned how to better balance my responsibilities.

It’s definitely been a learning experience, but it’s also taught me the importance of making time for the people who matter most.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a small but growing business, and I think one of the biggest challenges in the automotive industry is finding ways to truly set yourself apart from other shops.

One thing I really pride myself on is being the face of my company. I’m involved in everything from marketing and day-to-day operations to the actual service and work being performed. I feel like that’s one of my biggest strengths as a business owner. What you see is what you get—you’re not dealing with a salesperson or simply handing your vehicle off to someone who works for me. When a customer brings their vehicle to my shop, they know I personally have my hands on it and that my name and reputation are behind the work.

I primarily specialize in BMW and Toyota vehicles equipped with the B58 and S58 engines. For example, that includes the Toyota Supra, BMW M2, M3, M4, and other BMW models with the 40i platform. Those platforms have become my specialty, and I’ve built a lot of my knowledge and reputation around them.

I’m also starting to branch out into other high-performance vehicles, such as the Audi RS3 and similar platforms, as the business continues to grow.

More than anything, I’m proud of the brand I’ve built from the ground up. It started with an idea and a passion for cars, and with the help and support of my wife, I’ve been able to turn that into a growing business that I’m genuinely proud of.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that might surprise people is that, despite how much of my life revolves around cars and the business, I’m actually a pretty family-oriented person. A lot of people know me through my work, my cars, or the BRL brand, so they probably see the automotive side of me first.

What they may not know is how important my wife and daughter are to me and how much my family has been a part of the journey. My wife has been there from the beginning and has helped me build the brand into what it is today.

I think people sometimes see the finished product—the cars, the shop, the brand—and don’t necessarily see the personal side or the amount of time, sacrifice, and family support that went into getting here.

Also: I drive a Honda Civic Type R.
