Exploring Life & Business with Tierra Walker of Natural Beau-T

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tierra Walker.

Hi Tierra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Natural Beau-T originated in Tampa, Florida, where I’m from. I’ve called Houston home for the past five years, but the story of the brand started before I moved here. I’ve always loved beauty and skincare, and I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with different products and ingredients on myself to see what worked for me. I started experimenting with different oils and butters and eventually created my first product, T-Butter, originally for myself.

As my friends and family started using my body butter and encouraging me to share it with other people, there was a realization that there was actually a business there. What started as me making products for myself eventually became Natural Beau-T.

I continued the business for a little while after moving to Houston, but eventually I took a step back because I needed some space to grow in other areas of my life. I never really stopped loving the brand or creating products, though. Even while I was away from the business, people would still ask me about my products, ask when I was bringing them back, and remind me that they were still waiting on me. That honestly played a big part in my decision to return.

When I knew I was ready to come back, I wanted to do it with a clear vision and a better understanding of the business owner I wanted to become. I recently relaunched Natural Beau-T, and this time I’m approaching it with a lot more intention. I’m still involved in everything, from developing the products and designing the labels to creating the content and building the brand. I love that I get to combine my love for beauty and creativity with my background in marketing and create something that is completely mine.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course it hasn’t been a smooth road. I honestly don’t know many entrepreneurs who would say it has been. I think one of the biggest things I’ve learned is that people see the fun, visual side of entrepreneurship, but there is so much happening behind the scenes that you don’t really sees. There’s administrative work, inventory, customer service, product development, content, and all the other things that come with running a business, not to mention the lack of sleep and having a mind that’s constantly going.

A lot of those things aren’t necessarily taught. You have to be willing to figure things out, ask questions, ask for help, and be open to learning as you go. I’m also a naturally stubborn person, so I’ve had to learn that being open to feedback and admitting that I don’t know everything doesn’t make me less capable. I’ve also learned that just because it’s my business doesn’t mean I have to know everything.

Learning balance has probably been one of my biggest challenges. Right now, I’m balancing Natural Beau-T with a full-time career, pursuing my MBA at Texas Southern University, and still trying to have a life outside of work. It can be a lot, and I’ve had to become much more intentional about managing my time, stress, and energy.

But there’s also something rewarding about that challenge. Some of the things that make entrepreneurship stressful are also the things that are helping me grow. I’m always learning new skills, figuring things out, and becoming more confident in what I’m capable of. At the end of the day, I’m beyond blessed and grateful that I get to do it.

There’s something really special about having an idea in my head and seeing it become an actual product that someone can purchase, use, and enjoy. I still have moments where I look at something and think, “That’s mine. I did that.” And honestly, I don’t think that will ever get old.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Natural Beau-T is a handcrafted bath and body brand rooted in nourishing natural oils and butters. I create products that make taking care of your skin feel good, look good, smell good, and become something you actually enjoy doing. Natural Beau-T offers body oils, body butters, body scrubs, handcrafted soaps, body shimmer, and beard oils.

The products are inspired by my own experiences and the things I genuinely enjoy using on my skin. I’m very intentional about the ingredients I choose and how each product comes together. I’m definitely an overthinker, and sometimes that’s a gift and a curse. I can spend way too much time thinking about a product, an ingredient, a label, or an idea, but that same attention to detail is also what makes me very intentional about what I put out.

What sets Natural Beau-T apart is how hands-on I am. I’m not just the face of the brand. I’m involved in product development, labels, packaging, content, marketing, and the day-to-day operations. There’s literally a little bit of me in every part of it. Even the name is personal to me. Natural Beau-T speaks to the natural oils and butters behind the brand, while the “T” is a nod to me and what many of my family and close friends call me. You can basically say I put the T in Natural Beau-T.

I’m especially proud that I’ve been able to build and relaunch the brand myself while also having the support of my mom, family, and my closest friends. Their encouragement and support have meant so much throughout the process.

Most importantly, I want people to know that Natural Beau-T is for everybody. Whether you’re shopping for yourself, adding something to your everyday routine, or looking for something for someone else. Anyone can elevate their skin.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I would consider myself a calculated risk-taker. I’m someone who likes to think things through, sometimes overly think. But I do like to weigh the pros and cons, and understand what I’m getting myself into before making a decision.

Starting and relaunching a business has been a risk in itself. I’m investing my own money, time, energy, resources, and, honestly, sometimes my sanity and sleep into something that I’m building. Every time I introduce a new product, there’s an element of risk because there’s no guarantee that people are going to want it.

For example, introducing beard oil has pushed me to think beyond the audience I originally built Natural Beau-T around and become more intentional about expansion. It’s exciting to expand the brand, but anytime you step outside of what you already know works, there’s an element of risk.

For me, risk doesn’t mean being fearless. It means being willing to move forward even after you’ve thought of all the reasons something might not work. At some point, you have to trust yourself enough to try.
