Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecilia Andrews.
Hi Cecilia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have been practicing for three years now. I chose to enter the psychological field because my oldest sister has a developmental disorder. She is currently 39 years old but has the mental capacity of a teenager. She has inspired me to pursue a career in this field as well as work to help as many people as possible. I am the youngest daughter of three and have always had a passion for helping others. After I received my Bachelors of Science in Psychology, I decided to continue studying and go the counselor route because I enjoy cultivating human connection. I have always been the unofficial therapist for my family and friends so no one was surprised when I chose this as a career path. Kind Counseling Services was then born after a year of working for a different practice and realizing that I would enjoy doing it on my own. Being able to make an impact within the community has been so rewarding.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but nothing ever really is. When I first graduated, I worked for a practice that was run in ways that I didn’t agree with. As a new counselor, I was facing possible ethical issues as well as just overall negative outcomes due to management. I was happy to have experienced a rough first year because I learned a lot and was able to make the transition to my own practice as smooth as possible. There still are some struggles when it comes to continuing client flow and I am working on trying to become more established within the community in order to grow. The goal is to hire more counselors and grow the team so that we can help more clients.
We’ve been impressed with Kind Counseling Services, PLLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a counseling practice in the Shenandoah area and provide therapy for individuals, couples, and teens dealing with trauma, anxiety, and depression. We work with clients who struggle with various traumas as well as other mental health conditions.
We strive to be kind in all that we do and believe that kindness is a key component to a positive counseling experience. When a potential client is thinking of starting therapy, being kind can help bridge the gap and rid them of any nerves. The therapeutic relationship is extremely important in providing effective counseling and we strive to provide a safe space for clients to come just as they are.
