Hidden Gems: Meet David Salazar

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Salazar.

Hi David, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in San Marcos, Texas. I cherish the lessons and values that growing up in a small town affords you. The slow pace and close-knit community really allowed me to have a fun childhood. However, it also came with its limitations and challenges. I witnessed some traumatic things and it opened my eyes to the disparity in our society. I wanted to have a hand in changing that. I saw family members and neighbors being taken advantage of and I wanted to be able to say that I had a part in making it a fairer world for everyone; however big or small that part was. So here I am now, living my dream of making a change through the practice of law. I feel through litigation I’ve been able to help people by making sure rules and regulations have been changed to ensure safety for the general public. It feels good knowing that there are standards and practices that have been adopted as a direct result of the cases we have litigated.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Challenges are always relative and subjective, and to me, equate to blessings. I knew at a young age that I wanted more than what the small-town mentality had to offer. I was not content with finding a job that would support my small-town life and not much more. I knew there was more to the world and I would have to push myself to be able to achieve a level of success that would allow me the opportunity to seize all of its bounty. Higher education was not an expectation in my family so self-motivation was my first major challenge. You push yourself to do well in high school so you can get accepted to college, then another level of challenges to do well to get into law school, then another level of challenges to pass the bar. None of that prepared me for the challenges of owning my own law firm and being responsible for the livelihoods of my employees and clients who depend on my success. I started my law firm immediately out of law school with $621.00 to my name, there was a steep learning curve when it came to both practicing law and the business of law. However all of those challenges turned into blessings and I have learned not to dwell on issues but instead to focus on how to resolve them. Each teaching me valuable lessons along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My firm focuses on single event catastrophic injury cases throughout the nation; you name it, we’ve probably handled it. From trucking accidents to defective water heaters to defective ladders and swimming pools. If someone has been catastrophically injured. We’re here to help.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Professionally I see my firm expanding into other states, we’re currently in the process of doing this as we speak and expect to be in at least 3 other states in the next 2-4 years. As far as where I see things going in the legal community, we are all trying to keep up with an ever-evolving world. The legal field is a notoriously slow-moving animal. We are always the last to adopt technological changes and norms. The pandemic slowed us down tremendously when it came to backlogged cases on the court docket. However, it also forced us to change and catch up to other industry practices like utilizing Zoom and using social media to disperse information. It also opened our eyes to the importance of self-care and spending time on what is important in our lives. I hope in 5-10 years I am still improving this industry in every way I can while still seeking adventure and culture as a citizen of the world.
