Hi Deonna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in the beauty industry started with a genuine love for hair and making women feel beautiful and confident. Over time, that passion grew into RawTrendz Boutique, my beauty business where I’ve been able to express my creativity, build relationships with my clients, and continue developing my craft.
Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, I relocated to Houston and had to rebuild my clientele and establish my business in a completely new city. Starting over wasn’t always easy, but it pushed me outside of my comfort zone and taught me the importance of consistency, faith, and believing in what I was building. Since moving to Houston, I’ve continued my education in the beauty industry, became a licensed cosmetologist, and began specializing more in luxury extension services, particularly K-Tip extensions and healthy hair care.
Outside of entrepreneurship, I’m also an educator. Teaching and doing hair may seem like two completely different worlds, but both allow me to pour into people in different ways. Whether I’m helping a student grow academically or helping a client feel more confident when she leaves my chair, I know that I’m doing something that has an impact.
My journey is still being written. I’m continuing to grow RawTrendz Boutique, perfect my craft, expand my presence in the beauty industry, and challenge myself to dream bigger. Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, especially knowing that I had the courage to start over in a new city and continue building something that represents me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was relocating from Atlanta to Houston and essentially having to rebuild my business and clientele from the ground up. I went from being established and familiar with my market to being in a completely new city where I had to introduce myself, build trust, and create a name for RawTrendz Boutique all over again.
Another challenge has been balancing entrepreneurship with my career as an educator. There are days when I’m teaching during the day and taking clients afterward, so learning how to manage my time, protect my energy, and still give my best to both has been a journey in itself.
I’ve also had moments where things didn’t happen as quickly as I wanted them to. Entrepreneurship can make you question yourself, especially during slower seasons, but those moments taught me to stay consistent and continue investing in myself and my craft. My faith has played a huge role in keeping me grounded through every transition. I’ve learned that sometimes starting over isn’t a setback—it’s an opportunity to rebuild with more knowledge, confidence, and purpose.
We’ve been impressed with Rawtrendz Boutique , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
RawTrendz Boutique is a beauty brand centered around healthy hair, luxury services, and helping women feel confident in their own beauty. As a licensed cosmetologist, I offer a variety of hair services, but I specialize in luxury extensions, particularly K-Tip extensions. I’m known for creating natural, seamless results while being intentional about protecting and maintaining the health of my clients’ natural hair.
What sets RawTrendz Boutique apart is the experience and attention to detail I provide. I believe a luxury service should be about more than the finished hairstyle. From the consultation to the installation, maintenance, and removal process, I want my clients to feel comfortable, educated, and confident that their hair is being cared for. I take my time with my work and continue investing in education so that I can provide my clients with quality techniques and services.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that RawTrendz Boutique continues to evolve with me. What started from my love for doing hair has grown into a brand that represents beauty, creativity, confidence, and healthy hair. I’m especially proud of the growth of my extension services and being able to show women that they can enjoy extensions while still prioritizing their natural hair.
I want readers to know that RawTrendz Boutique is a brand I’m building with intention. My goal is to continue expanding in the luxury extension industry, growing my knowledge and expertise, and creating an experience where every client leaves my chair not only looking beautiful, but feeling beautiful too.
How do you think about luck?
I’ve never really looked at my journey in terms of good or bad luck. I’m a woman of faith, so I believe that God has guided my steps and that even the challenges I’ve experienced have served a purpose in my life.
There have definitely been moments when unexpected opportunities came at the right time, and I’m grateful for them. At the same time, I believe preparation, consistency, and being willing to take chances have allowed me to make the most of those opportunities. Relocating to Houston, rebuilding my clientele, continuing my education, and growing RawTrendz Boutique have all required me to trust the process even when I couldn’t see the outcome.
Even the things that may have felt like “bad luck” in the moment have taught me something or redirected me toward something better. I’ve learned that every season won’t look the way I planned, but I can still grow from it. I truly believe that what is meant for me will find me as long as I continue doing my part, staying faithful, and being intentional about where I’m going.
