Today we’d like to introduce you to Essence Scott.
Hi Essence, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
During the pandemic, I found a passion for design and exploring new activities. I spoke with a friend about a new activity I’d seen going around called “luxury picnics” and expressed that we should have one. When I showed them, they told me that they thought the idea was “so me” and something that I should pursue as a business idea. I kind of shrugged it off, then that night, I had a dream about the name “For The Love of Picnics,” and I fell in love with the idea. I immediately began research, joining groups, learning about licensing and building my inventory. My first booking came Valentine’s Day week of 2022, a few months later and from there, it never stopped. I have expanded to luxury proposals, weddings ranging from 50 to 200 guests, full-service event planning (baby showers, gender reveals, formal dinners, birthday parties), hotel/room decorations, and so much more. I have been able to expand my inventory so much and have upgraded my storage space 3 times, next up is a warehouse! I have been a part of so many beautiful moments and stories. I have been able to hire others and teach. I never imagined just a small idea of picnics becoming my full-time job or having and being able to maintain a six-figure business. I am so thankful to God and blessed to have the support system that I do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has not always been easy. There were a lot of lessons to learn in this industry, including time management, overextending myself, dealing with difficult clients, and setting boundaries. It is easy to become consumed by work, but everyone needs a work/life balance.

For The Love of Picnics offers luxury services. From picnics to proposals, weddings, events, and more. We are known for being romance experts and providing a luxury experience every step of the way. We are so proud to say that we have many clients who have chosen to allow us to be a part of their journey and love story from day 1. We have clients that have booked girlfriend proposals with us, followed by anniversaries, then followed by marriage proposals. We have returning clients that we have provided proposal services for that we have had the honor to later assist with their wedding. We are proud to say that we build lasting relationships with our clients. This year, we aim to continue to expand and travel within our business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I sometimes believe that we were lucky to have a launch around Valentine’s Day in 2022, and that is what helped us not only get the ball rolling but continue to attract clients afterward. I also believe that God and determination played a huge part in our success. While we are lucky to be where we are today, we are also blessed and very hard-working.
