Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlin Cuevas.
Hi Kaitlin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story really started long before I officially started my own business. I worked at my family’s marketing business for almost 10 years, which gave me an incredible foundation in business, marketing, and working with clients. But over time, I started to realize that I wanted to build something that felt more personally meaningful to me.
In 2020, I wrote a book called *Think Happy*. And, of course, it came out right as COVID shut everything down! But that book opened a door I didn’t even realize was there. It eventually led me to start *The Think Happy Podcast*, and the podcast introduced me to the world of coaching and ultimately became the foundation for the business I have today.
One of the biggest themes of my journey is that I’ve never really had the whole plan figured out. I’ve just taken the next step that I knew was available to me. When I wrote my book, I didn’t even know that “regular people” could start a podcast. When I started the podcast, I didn’t know the coaching industry was even a thing. I just kept following what felt interesting and right, and each step led me to the next one.
I officially left my 9-to-5 in 2022, after my second child, my son, was born. Becoming a mom really clarified two things for me: first, working was important to me, and I didn’t want to stop being a working mom. But second, if I was going to spend my time working while also raising my kids, I wanted to be doing something that brought me genuine joy. I couldn’t find that in a traditional work environment, so I decided to create it for myself.
Today, my business has evolved into so much more than I could have imagined when I wrote that book. I host multiple motherhood events each year, work with clients one-on-one, even visiting them in their homes to help them create systems and simplify their lives, and I’m currently testing a membership community for moms.
At the time of this interview, my daughter is almost 6 and my son is almost 4, and I genuinely feel like I get the best of both worlds — being a mom and being a business owner. It’s not always easy, but I love that I’ve built a career that allows me to do both in a way that feels authentic to me.
And honestly, the biggest shout-out has to go to my husband. He has been incredibly supportive and helpful throughout this entire journey, and I absolutely couldn’t do what I do without him.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. I think one of the biggest struggles for me has actually been the emotional side of leaving my family’s business. I worked there for almost 10 years, and it was something my family had built, so leaving felt like more than just leaving a job. There was a part of me that worried I was disappointing my parents or that they would see my decision as me rejecting something they had worked so hard to build. Truthfully, that’s something I’m still working through. I’m incredibly grateful for everything I learned there, and I know leaving was the right decision for me, but that doesn’t mean it was an easy one emotionally.
Another struggle has been the pressure I put on myself in my own business. I have a tendency to think, “Shouldn’t I have hit *this* milestone by now?” or “Shouldn’t the business be *here* by now?” I wouldn’t say it’s entirely about comparing myself to other business owners, although that definitely plays a role. I think it’s also that I hold myself to a really high standard and I know what I’m capable of, so I can be impatient with my own timeline.
I’ve had to learn that building a business (especially one that’s grown organically the way mine has) doesn’t always happen on the timeline you imagine. I’m learning to be ambitious about where I’m going while also giving myself credit for how far I’ve already come.
As you know, we’re big fans of Think Happy, Co.. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Think Happy exists to make motherhood feel a little lighter, both literally and emotionally.
At the heart of everything I do is one goal: helping moms alleviate the weight of their mental load and build more community in motherhood.
I work with moms in a few different ways. I offer one-on-one coaching, including working with moms directly in their homes to help them declutter, create systems, and make their homes and routines work better for their actual lives. I also host multiple motherhood events (Happy Mom Collective) throughout the year where moms can step away from the daily responsibilities of motherhood, connect with other women, and have honest conversations about what they’re carrying.
I’m also currently testing a membership community for moms, which brings together practical support, accountability, coaching, and community.
What sets Think Happy apart is that I’m not interested in giving moms another list of things they *should* be doing. Moms already have enough information. They need support. They need practical solutions that actually work for their individual lives, and they need other women who understand what this season feels like.
That combination of practical support and genuine community is really the heart of my brand.
What I’m most proud of right now is how much my in-person events have grown. Seeing a room full of moms connect on such a genuinely deep level is incredibly special to me. These aren’t just networking events or opportunities to hear someone speak…there’s something really beautiful that happens when moms get in a room together and realize, “Oh, you’re carrying that too.” There are moments during almost every event where I look around the room and have a genuine *pinch me* moment. I get to watch women make new friends, share honestly, brainstorm together, and walk away feeling more supported than when they walked in. That is something I’m incredibly proud to have created.
Ultimately, I want moms to walk away from anything I offer feeling a little less overwhelmed, a little more supported, and reminded that they don’t have to do motherhood alone.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I don’t think there’s one memory that’s my favorite…my answer to this is just the general sense of security and love from my parents. I have never once doubted their love. They are so incredibly supportive and helpful. Seeing them now as grandparents to my own children brings me so much joy!! I feel so lucky and blessed to have them!!
