Hidden Gems: Meet Lauren Miranda of Empathic Marq

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Miranda.

Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Becoming an esthetician has allowed me the opportunity to fulfill both my passion for skincare and deep desire to help others. Helping others is something my late stepfather, who was a huge part of shaping who I am, instilled in me. After he passed I soon became a mother, focusing on raising my son until the time was right and I went back to school to achieve my goal.

Today I run Empathic Marq, a skincare practice where I also provide sugaring and brow and lash enhancements. The name reflects who I am as an empath while also honoring my stepfather, whose last name was Marquez.

As much as empathy plays a huge role in my life and practice, so does vulnerability. Being vulnerable about my passions and drive to help others has opened real doors for me in the industry; from a partnership with Deborah from Sugar Mama Pro to being awarded a sugaring course scholarship with Sweet & True. Proving that vulnerability isn’t just about exposure but connection.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Becoming a solo esthetician has been filled with opportunities for both growth and change in my practice and in my life. It has been challenging to say the least from navigating mom duties to figuring out my niche. Focusing on the people when it gets tough has helped me work through those challenges. Whether it’s the “little babies” on the streets, in my treatment room of even my own little baby. That is my “why”, my motivation.

As you know, we’re big fans of Empathic Marq. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My practice is beyond superficial, beyond skincare and beauty. It is a safe space where people can open up, wind down and feel seen and heard. It is a place of guidance, education and support. My services go beyond the treatment room where I continue to guide them through their skincare goals, help them figure out a routine and product that works best for them and their skincare goals.

My brand is empathy, empowerment and most of all authentic. I take pride in my ability to always be my authentic self, something I push everyone to be, themselves and proud of it. To teach vulnerability, that it’s okay to ask for help, it’s okay to not know things and that it’s never too late to learn and grow.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Although I’m not crazy about the traffic or sometimes even the crowdedness, (I’m an old soul who appreciates the stillness and simplicity) I am so grateful for the diversity. The idea that there are no two people who think or feel completely the same brings excitement. New people means new ideas and opportunities for growth. Sure, there is “competition” but to me, it’s always about collaboration. They’re are over 2 million people in the city and I can’t treat them all just yet.
