Hidden Gems: Meet Mariam Kamara of LOMÉA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariam Kamara.

Hi Mariam, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My creative journey really started with home. I’ve always been drawn to how spaces make people feel, from the objects in a room to the way a table is set, the lighting, the food, and the atmosphere. That eventually led me into resin art, where I began designing handmade home pieces like coasters, trays, wine stoppers, and wine caddies. Creating those pieces taught me how much I loved making objects that were both functional and meaningful.

Over time, that grew into something bigger. I’m Sierra Leonean and Ivorian, and both cultures have deeply influenced the way I think about color, texture, hospitality, food, and gathering. Cooking and hosting have always been another extension of my creativity, so LOMÉA became the place where all of those parts of me could meet.

Today, LOMÉA is a design-led home and hosting brand rooted in culture, presence, and memory. It started with my love of beautiful, useful objects, but the vision is much larger: creating pieces and experiences that make people feel more connected to their homes, their tables, and each other.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to turn creativity into a sustainable business. There’s a huge difference between having a vision and figuring out sourcing, production, pricing, packaging, shipping, marketing, and all the small decisions that happen behind the scenes.

I’ve also had to learn when to evolve. My creative journey started with handmade resin pieces, but over time I realized I wanted to build something broader. Letting go of what was familiar and trusting myself enough to create LOMÉA required a lot of patience, trial and error, and learning as I went.

I’m still learning every day, but those challenges have helped me become much more intentional about what I create and the kind of brand I want to build.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
LOMÉA is a design-led home and hosting brand rooted in culture, presence, and memory. We focus on home and table pieces that are sculptural, functional, and made to become part of the way people actually gather, from glassware and hosting objects to a broader world of food, storytelling, and experiences.

What sets LOMÉA apart is that I approach the brand from multiple creative angles. I’m a home cook, host, and multidisciplinary creative, so I think about the full atmosphere of a space, not just the object itself. The food, glassware, interiors, music, scent, lighting, and texture all matter. My Sierra Leonean and Ivorian background also shapes the way I think about hospitality, color, flavor, and connection.

I’m most proud that LOMÉA already feels like more than a product brand. It is becoming a larger expression of home and hospitality, one that brings together beautiful objects, intentional gathering, and the stories and memories created around them.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something people might not know about me is that I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I can spend an absurd amount of time obsessing over tiny details that most people probably wouldn’t notice. Whether it’s the placement of something on a table, the way a space feels, or one small element of a project, I’ll keep adjusting it until it feels right. It can definitely slow me down sometimes, but that attention to detail also shapes so much of the way I create.
