Hi Michelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Houston Affordable Designs began with our founder, Liz Crider, and her love for creating beautiful, functional spaces. Growing up in a family that embraced DIY projects, she learned early on how creativity could transform a home. While working a full-time corporate job, she began designing and renovating her own home and small real estate investments.
A turning point came when a condo she was flipping was featured on HGTV. That experience encouraged her to pursue design further, and helping others improve their homes eventually grew into Houston Affordable Designs.
Today, we’re a team of eight designers serving Houston and the surrounding areas. We work alongside skilled handymen, carpenters, and furniture assembly professionals to bring each project together, from consultation through installation. As we’ve grown, our focus has remained the same: creating beautiful, affordable spaces that reflect our clients’ personalities and make their everyday lives more functional and enjoyable.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a business comes with challenges, and our journey has been a learning process. One of the biggest has been balancing beautiful design with affordability—finding ways to bring a client’s vision to life while respecting their budget.
There are also many moving pieces behind every project, from sourcing furniture to coordinating deliveries and installations. When plans change, creative problem-solving and clear communication become just as important as the design itself.
As our team has grown, we’ve continued learning how to coordinate those details while giving each client personal attention. Those experiences have helped us become more resourceful and thoughtful about how we approach each project.
We’ve been impressed with Houston Affordable Designs , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Houston Affordable Designs is an interior design studio serving Houston and the surrounding areas. We help clients create beautiful, functional homes that reflect their personal style while keeping affordability at the heart of the process.
Our approach combines creative design, thoughtful shopping, and practical problem-solving. With eight designers and a network of skilled handymen, carpenters, and furniture assembly professionals, we guide projects from consultation through installation. We consider both how a space looks and how it needs to work for the people living in it.
What sets us apart is our resourcefulness and personal approach. Every client has different needs, tastes, and priorities, and we work closely with them to find solutions that make sense for their home and budget.
We’re most proud of building a brand around the belief that beautiful design can be approachable and affordable. We want readers to know that their home has potential, and we’re here to help them see the possibilities and bring them to life.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Liz: Probably having sleepovers with my girlfriends and holding our own dance competitions! We had so much fun together!
Michelle: Having my cousins over for the holidays and building forts out of blankets and couch cushions! I loved being together and turning the living room into our own little hideaway.
Rachel: Riding bikes around the neighborhood with my brother, playing in the backyard, and baking with my sister!

- $4.50 per sq feet theres a 2 room minimum and if the room is less than 250 sq feet then we will charge you the minimum design fee which is $995
