Hidden Gems: Meet Nina Lazraq of Now Star Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Lazraq

Hi Nina , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey into acting and modeling in Morocco, where, from a young age, I found a deep passion for the performing arts. Growing up, acting became my outlet for self-expression, helping me navigate challenges and explore my creativity. My love for the craft grew, and eventually, I decided to take my passion to the next level by moving to Los Angeles. There, I had the opportunity to study at the renowned Lee Strasberg Institute, known for producing some of the greatest actors, and at the Actors Studio Theater in La Brea/Hollywood, where I immersed myself in various acting techniques and learned from industry professionals.

After my studies, I moved to Houston and took the leap to open my own acting studio, Now Star Studio. I created this space to teach acting to people of all ages and levels. Whether my students want to pursue a professional acting career, grow in their craft, or simply boost their confidence and free their voice, I love helping them develop and express themselves in a safe, encouraging environment. It’s about more than just acting for me; it’s about personal growth, breaking out of shells, and building self-esteem.

While running my acting studio, I also developed a strong interest in real estate. I began investing in properties, which led me to earn my real estate license. Now, I get to help people navigate the exciting world of buying, selling, or investing in real estate. It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to guide others in such an important part of their lives.

Balancing my acting studio, real estate career, and marriage keeps me busy, but I absolutely love it. I’m so grateful to do what I love, whether it’s helping people express themselves through acting or guiding them through real estate decisions. It brings me so much joy to see others grow and achieve their goals, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up in Morocco, a conservative and developing country, was challenging in many ways. Coming from a poor family, I had to work from a young age to help support us, which gave me a strong sense of responsibility early on. While I had dreams of doing more, the reality of my situation required a lot of sacrifice and perseverance.

Leaving Morocco was one of the toughest decisions I ever made, but I knew I had to pursue bigger opportunities to help my family. I moved to Switzerland to study hospitality management, balancing my studies with work to make ends meet. It wasn’t easy, especially being far from home and knowing no one, but I pushed through because I had a vision of building a better life not just for myself, but for my family.

After Switzerland, I moved to Qatar to work at the Marriott Hotel. Again, I was in a new country, starting from scratch, but I learned to adapt quickly and focused on building my career. From there, I transferred to Dubai with the same hotel brand, continuing my journey of personal and professional growth. Each move meant stepping into the unknown, with no family or support system in these countries. But each step also brought me closer to my goals, and the determination to succeed kept me going.

It was a long road, filled with struggles and challenges, but my drive to succeed and support my family never wavered. Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and grateful for the experiences that shaped me. They taught me resilience, hard work, and the importance of believing in yourself, even when the odds are stacked against you.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Now Star Studio is my acting studio, where I focus on teaching method acting to students of all ages and levels. Method acting is a powerful approach that encourages actors to connect deeply with their characters by drawing on personal emotions and experiences. At Now Star Studio, I create a space where students can explore their full potential, whether they’re just starting out or refining their craft.

I believe in the transformative power of method acting, as it not only helps actors deliver authentic performances but also helps them discover parts of themselves they might not have accessed before. Through various exercises, scene work, and character analysis, I guide my students to tap into their emotions and bring raw, truthful performances to the stage or screen.

Some students come to the studio with dreams of a professional acting career, while others are simply looking to grow, build confidence, or express themselves in new ways. No matter their goal, my mission is to help them unlock their inner artist, free their voice, and become more connected to their emotions and instincts.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love about Houston is its vibrant diversity and welcoming spirit. The city is a melting pot of cultures, which makes it an exciting place to live and work. There’s always something to explore—whether it’s the variety of restaurants, the arts scene, or the local events that bring people together. The opportunities here are vast, and I love how Houston has supported my growth in both real estate and acting, allowing me to thrive in both fields.

However, one thing I dislike about Houston is the unpredictable weather, especially the intense heat and humidity. It can be challenging to deal with, particularly in the summer. Additionally, the traffic can be frustrating at times, as getting around the city can take longer than expected. Despite these challenges, I still appreciate everything Houston offers and enjoy calling it home.
