Hidden Gems: Meet Tekerra Broussard of Stylesbyteke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tekerra Broussard

Hi Tekerra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always had an interest in doing hair. The journey began immediately out of high school when I decided to go to Remington College to pursue my career. I started off doing hair on my free time around my regular work life as an hourly and commission based hairstylist. I was comfortable with the idea of having consistent pay and not having to work as hard for it. Until I realized I wanted more out of the industry and the only person who could make that happen was myself. I was my business, everything I needed to succeed was already in me. After being a licensed cosmetologist for over 9 years in 2022 I dedicated my time and energy into my own business, Stylesbyteke. Just like any new venture it was scary but that fear didn’t stay with me for long. It was after I took the first step I realized the only thing holding me back was myself. The amount of blessings that are pouring in is immeasurable.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning finding the right exposure and figuring out my targeted clientele was a struggle. Not to mention balancing a new business along with mothering a child. But as time went on it everything balanced itself out.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m the owner of Stylesbyteke. I offer haircare services to kids and adults. I also offer wax services to adults. The best part about my business is it’s a one stop shop. It’s family friendly and it’s a safe space. I specialize in braids services, natural haircare services and weave services along with full body wax services. I run a respectable business and I’m proud to say that I have integrity. It brings me so much joy to work with people that not only trust me but see my passion for this industry and support it.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
This may seem silly but one day my Nanny April picked up a comb and told me to come do her hair. I was flabbergasted because I never did that style before. But she had faith in me, more than I did in myself at that moment in time. Even though she has since passed away her words have stuck with me throughout the years. I haven’t been scared to pick up a comb since!
