As I look back, my life has taken twists and turns, throughout the backdrop of my life I have struggled with periodic depression starting at the age of 10 years old, until I went through professional counseling in my 30s and through my personal faith, learned about the vitally important process of forgiveness and prevention in my life.
I was born in the 1970s in California and loved making art at an early age. I remember making my first oil painting at 3 years old, and made art regularly ever since. Mid-childhood we moved to Virginia, where I graduated from high school, college and medical school. I had broad interests, and enjoyed visual art, music, theatre and sciences, and majored in Biology. I studied at The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, and Eastern Virginia Medical School. I thought I would combine my love of visual arts and Medicine and become a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, and began to do a residency at Duke University.
Several months into my residency while driving at about 75 mph on the interstate, I fell asleep at the wheel, causing the car to turn 360s and hit the center trees. I was very shaken but beyond sprains and strains not seriously injured. While recovering, I thought about my life and I realized that the career I had selected was not a good fit.
I decided to change directions and found an amazing career in Occupational Medicine and Public Health. I started at a local Public Health Department in Virginia, taking care of Public Safety and city workers, doing their surveillance exams, overseeing immunizations and helping them with work-related injuries. I realized I really loved the field because it is population and prevention focused, has a lot of variety, and much broader and more creative in solving community problems. I began to pursue more training and education, and completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Administration and Public Policy from UNC Chapel Hill, and completed a residency in Occupational Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Over 25 years, I have been blessed to have some amazing experiences working in many settings, including internationally in Indonesia, and working for global corporations as a Corporate physician, with a strong charge to protect populations of workers and prevent disease.
Along this journey I have also had a deep and life-long love of visual arts, and it has been very integrated part of my life. During my busy practice of medicine and raising a family, my art practice had been a key part of my life that I did privately from my home art studio. In 2019, I refocused my life priorities and decided to develop a more public art practice, creating social media, a web site, entering art shows locally, nationally and internationally. In June, 2024 I had an opportunity to start a new fine art gallery partnership with three other physician/artists in LaJolla, CA called Level of Service Not Required Gallery (https://www.losnotrequired.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a bumpy road, filled with many challenges, including a long struggle with depression, and childhood economic instability – I worked really hard to pay for my education, which was really difficult. As I look back, I feel incredibly thankful, I believe that the difficulties I endured have shaped me into a much deeper, more grateful, and more compassionate person. I also credit my spouse, Julie, for her enduring love and patience, and my faith in God who daily sustains me.
We’ve been impressed with OATH HEALTH PRODUCTS LLC – launching https://drjerrys.com, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our new company is called OATH HEALTH PRODUCTS LLC based in The Woodlands, TX – Our first brand recently launched called “Dr.Jerry’s” (https://drjerrys.com), which is a line of high-quality, evidence-based supplements for common symptoms – Our new company has a vision to improve physical, mental, social and spiritual health for all people. We aim to become a global company with a variety of products that improve the health of all people.
QUALITY It is critically important with health supplements to ensure high quality; most products on the market, especially inexpensive products are generally not good quality. We have tested many competitors and have found a high percentage have low potency and some even have harmful substances. Only with high quality products will you see good clinical effects, so it is really important to look for GMP certification – Dr. Jerry’s is one of the few that meets extensive quality tests and is GMP certified –

We’d love to learn more about your art work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
As a lifelong visual artist I primarily focus on oil painting – I have deep, philosophical and complex ideas that I portray in layered ways using abstract and figurative elements. I think about life, the meaning of life, spiritual themes, resilience through pain and how we process it. As a follower of Jesus, I am deeply spiritual and all my work speaks in a language of visual symbols and metaphors. Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My wife Julie – is a constant encouragement and supporter – I am a dreamer and visionary, she gently helps me stay grounded and keep things practical – Also my two daughters Abigail and Eva, they inspire me every day!
