Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiran Valani.
Hi Kiran, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey is proof that your purpose doesn’t always follow the path you planned. With no formal background in design, I studied Criminal Justice and Psychology, earned a Midwifery degree back home, and pursued ACCA. Yet life led me somewhere completely unexpected the world of event décor. With passion, resilience, and the courage to start from scratch, I taught myself the industry and turned a hidden creativity into a career and a business I’m incredibly proud of. Today, I don’t just decorate spaces I create experiences, memories, and moments that become part of someone’s story.
Over the years, I faced many challenges, but each one helped me grow both personally and professionally. Through hard work, dedication, and a commitment to delivering exceptional experiences, I eventually became the owner and CEO of Divine Decor & Design. Today, I lead a talented team that specializes in luxury weddings, cultural celebrations, and large-scale events throughout Houston.
What motivates me most is being able to bring a client’s vision to life and seeing the joy our work creates for families on some of the most important days of their lives. My story is still being written, but every event, every client, and every challenge has played a role in shaping the entrepreneur and leader I am today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, I have faced my share of challenges along the way. Building and growing a business in the events industry requires long hours, constant problem-solving, and the ability to adapt quickly when things don’t go as planned.
One of the biggest challenges was stepping into a leadership role and taking on the responsibility of running a company. Managing a team, maintaining high standards, navigating financial decisions, and ensuring every event is executed flawlessly can be incredibly demanding. There have also been challenges with staffing, logistics, supply chain issues, and the unpredictability that comes with live events.
However, every obstacle taught me valuable lessons about resilience, leadership, and perseverance. Instead of viewing challenges as setbacks, I learned to see them as opportunities to improve our systems, strengthen our team, and provide an even better experience for our clients.
Looking back, those struggles played a major role in shaping who I am today. They pushed me to grow both personally and professionally, and they continue to motivate me to keep learning, improving, and striving for excellence.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that networking is not about collecting contacts it’s about building genuine relationships. The best opportunities in my career have come from people who trusted me, believed in my work, and were willing to open doors because of the relationships we had built over time.
When it comes to finding a mentor, my advice is to look for someone whose values, work ethic, and leadership style you admire. A mentor doesn’t always have to come through a formal mentorship program. Some of the most influential mentors enter your life naturally through business, community involvement, or industry events. Be willing to ask questions, listen more than you speak, and show appreciation for the time and knowledge they share.
What has worked well for me is staying involved in my industry, consistently delivering quality work, and maintaining strong relationships long after a project is completed. I’ve found that people are more willing to help when they see your dedication, professionalism, and willingness to learn. Networking is a long-term investment, and the key is to focus on how you can provide value to others rather than what you can gain from them.
Most importantly, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Attend events, introduce yourself, follow up with people, and stay connected. You never know which conversation may lead to a partnership, friendship, mentorship, or opportunity that can change the course of your career.
