Kelsee Melton Licensed Professional Counselor shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Kelsee, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think many people struggle with silently feeling inadequate or “not good enough.” This feeling can be caused by unrealistic societal expectations, work-life imbalance, constantly chasing the “next best thing”, and unhealthy comparisons to others. We put added pressure on ourselves in hopes of finally achieving happiness and fulfillment. The struggle is trying to truly be happy, but never feeling fulfilled or where we are supposed to be in life.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kelsee Melton. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and business owner of Katy Child & Family Counseling Services located in the heart of Old Katy.
I specialize in working with children, teens, and their families to help overcome some of life’s biggest challenges. I started this dream in hopes of helping others navigate through some of their toughest moments by giving them a voice and feeling heard. My goal is to help bridge the gap within families to create better connection, attachment, and cohesiveness.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks bonds is often silence—unspoken hurt, unmet needs, and the quiet drift that comes when we stop truly seeing each other. Pride, fear, and assumptions often widen this gap. What restores bonds and closes gaps is vulnerability—the bravery to speak honestly, to listen without defense, and to meet each other with compassion instead of judgment. Connection is then rebuilt, not all at once, but moment by moment when we choose to reach instead of retreat.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Sounds cliche, but fear of failure. Taking leaps of faith and taking on new challenges are both extremely scary. It’s easier to stay complacent and stick with what you know, but the unknown is where the real growth, vulnerability, and rewards are hiding. Sometimes the risks are worth the rewards, if we could just overcome our fear and take the leap!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Without a doubt, the person I admire most for their character is my stepdad. He stepped into the role of a father with so much love and intention—when he didn’t have to, but chose to. He’s the kind of person who gives without hesitation, supports without question, and shows up for his family and others with a heart full of generosity. He’s never met a stranger and finds genuine joy in helping, in being of service, in making someone’s day a little lighter. His kindness, humility, and steady presence have shaped my life in ways I’ll always be grateful for. He truly is one of the best humans I’ve ever known.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I had 10 years left, I’d stop overly stressing, let go of perfectionism, and stop pushing myself to the point of exhaustion. I’d release the need to constantly prove or achieve, and instead focus on being present—truly present—with the people I love and the moments that matter. I’d laugh more, rest without guilt, and allow myself to enjoy life as it is, not just as it could be. There’s so much beauty in simply being, and I wouldn’t want to miss it chasing something that was never required to begin with.
