Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Chelsey Zardes of North Houston

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chelsey Zardes. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Chelsey , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something I’m really enjoying outside of work is reading. I read a lot! I love a nice paperback, a great audiobook but I love my kindle. I can get lost in a good book. It sometimes causes me to procrastinate.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello world! My name is Chelsey Aniece. I am a pop and r&b singer in Houston, Texas. I am a 4th grade teacher and a 7th and 8th grade’s coach as well. I have a 13 year old son name Caiden. My life has been busy lately. I am starting to work on new music and hope to have some out soon. My last single “I Want You” was dropped in December of 2024. My music is on all platforms. I also have music videos on YouTube. I love different types of genres and would love to collaborate with other artists.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest moment of feeling powerful was back in elementary school. I’m from New Orleans, Louisiana. I went to a Catholic private school called St. Peter Claver. I would often sing for assemblies. I remember I was about six years old and was asked to sing. I sung “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong and the audience loved it. I always loved singing and loved it more when it was a relatable song.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I actually thought about giving up making music. My personal life had become too much. I was helping care for my grandparents, working full-time with a part-time job and being a parent. I just felt like I had no time and I really neglected my craft. I’m thinking we have people in my corner who reminded me that it’s okay to take a break, but giving up is not an option.
My grandmother passed in May of 2023 and my grandfather April of this year. I’m just really starting to get back to a sense of normalcy. It’s tough that right now. I have to be focused at work and do my full-time job that pays my bills, but I’m ready to go back to making music. It’s what makes me happy so I know I can’t give up.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say I’m a hardworking and very diligent. They would also say I’m strong-willed and sometimes stubborn. My really close friends know how big my heart is and that’s what makes me a gem.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I only had ten years left I would put my focus on the things that make me happy and bring little to no stress. I would spend more time with family and friend, travel, read and make tons of music.
I would stop working for someone else and spending my days overwhelmed where I’m hardly appreciated.
