Doug, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
RUGBY! Having been involved in rugby for 35 years, coaching youth rugby and helping to grow the sport for the next generation has been surprisingly filled with joy. Seeing the parents and the kids lights go off was never expected and is pretty cool.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The Woodlands Nightscaping is not just a Landscape Lighting company utilizing the highest quality SOLID BRASS lighting fixtures that through “outside the box” design actually have 10different lighting designs inside one single fixture. The Woodlands Nightscaping is also a full service, design, build, maintain landscaping company. From hardscape, water features, soil feeding; all organic as well as the areas number one outdoor lighting company. We provide safety and beauty without skimping on quality backed by nearly 30 years of experience.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My Grandfather, Dad, Grandmother and mother. I’m very lucky!
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Honesty and Perseverance.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That will work. One size fits all. Many of the products out there are not what’s right for the customers custom project. We’ve worked hard over the last 29 years to hunt down, change the mindset of some of the manufactures to have the ability to provide our customers with what they need vs this is what you get.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
Service before, during and especially after the sale. We work in The Woodlands and surrounding area. That allows us to provide a family/friend type of service. Always driving by to at least put eyes on the property. Adding a water hose hanger when it’s seen to have busted, fixing a busted/leaking sprinkler head, seeing a customers dog loose and catching it, repairing the hole and letting the customer know Fido is safe.. We see these things, we fix these things, on the house, its one of the things that set us apart.
