Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Dr. Ronnie Coleman Jr. of Southwest Houston

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dr. Ronnie Coleman Jr. . Check out our conversation below.

Hi Ronnie, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I truly enjoy spending time with my family

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Ronnie Coleman Jr. is a nationally recognized contemporary music artist from Houston, Texas, celebrated for his award-winning talent and trailblazing impact on the music industry. With numerous awards and nominations to his name, he was honored by the City of Houston when the late Mayor Sylvester Turner proclaimed September 15th as “Ronnie Coleman Jr. Day.” His artistry and influence have also been recognized by Congress and many other institutions for advancing and shaping Houston’s vibrant music scene.
In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, Ronnie was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy of Philanthropy from Leaders Esteem Bible College, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award and Presidential Medal personally presented by President Joe Biden.
Beyond music, Ronnie is a visionary entrepreneur — one of Houston’s most respected chefs, a Master Barber, and the proud owner of a thriving barbershop for more than a decade. Above all, he remains dedicated to his greatest role as a husband and father to his four children, grounding his career and ventures in faith, family, and legacy.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
A very small cohort of unrelated angels. Valencia Edner, Michael Lofton and Vernon Lloyd

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. Most days as a self employed serial entrepreneur with a family. Life is t always easy but I’ve had to constantly remind myself that I can make it.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I don’t have a “PUBLIC VERSION”… I am one way all the time. Life has brought a different level of being that is unwavering attached to enormous amounts of “don’t care”. lol. Nobody has time to waste making copies and versions of yourself.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was an honest man who genuinely started from nothing with nothing and was blessed to be a blessing while handling my business as a man and father in life all the way around.
