We’re looking forward to introducing you to Olga Bachilo, MD, FACS. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Olga, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think many people secretly struggle with self-confidence and the pressure to always appear put together, but they rarely admit it. In our culture, there is a lot of emphasis on looking effortlessly beautiful or youthful, and that can create unrealistic expectations. Patients often come in initially talking about something small they would like to improve, but through conversation, I discover it is really about wanting to feel comfortable in their own skin. That deeper emotional side of aesthetics is something people do not always say out loud, but it is at the heart of why they seek care.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Dr. Olga Bachilo, a board-certified plastic surgeon and founder of Glamour Plastic Surgery and Med Spa in Houston, Texas. My practice is boutique by design – we focus on creating a highly personalized, welcoming experience where patients feel comfortable, informed, and cared for at every step. What makes us unique is that we combine advanced surgical expertise with a wide range of nonsurgical treatments, so patients can explore options that fit their goals, lifestyle, and comfort level. I personally test every treatment before offering it, because I believe in recommending only what truly works.
My story is about empowering patients to feel confident and authentic in their own skin. Whether it is through a mommy makeover, facial rejuvenation, or wellness treatments, my goal is to deliver not just beautiful results, but also an uplifting experience that honors each person’s individuality. Right now, I am excited about advancing our body contouring and skin health services, and continuing to educate patients on how aesthetics and wellness can go hand-in-hand.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What often breaks the bonds between people is a lack of listening and empathy. When we stop truly hearing one another or start making assumptions instead of having honest conversations, trust begins to erode. On the other hand, what restores those bonds is simple but powerful, genuine compassion, patience, and the willingness to be vulnerable. In my work with patients, I see how openness and trust transform the entire experience. When people feel safe, respected, and understood, relationships grow stronger and more meaningful.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time during my training when the exhaustion and sacrifices felt unbearable. I remember coming home after endless hours in the hospital, questioning if I had the strength to keep going. I almost gave up on the dream I had worked so hard for. What kept me going was remembering the patients whose lives I wanted to change and the passion that first drew me to medicine. That vision carried me through the hardest days, and now every grateful smile from a patient reminds me why it was worth not giving up
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I think many smart people get it wrong when they believe they have to have all the answers on their own. Intelligence is not about knowing everything, it is about being open to learning, collaborating, and admitting when you do not know something. In medicine especially, progress comes from humility and teamwork, not ego. The smartest people I know are the ones who stay curious, listen, and adapt.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
When I feel most at peace is when I am fully present, whether that is early in the morning with a quiet cup of tea before the day begins, walking with my family, or standing in the operating room after a successful procedure where the team worked together seamlessly. There is a deep calm that comes from purposeful work done with care, from moments when the noise falls away and I remember why I chose this path. Those are the moments when I feel grounded: focused on healing, grateful for trust, and quietly reassured that the small, steady acts of care really matter.
