Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Tammie Fletcher

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tammie Fletcher. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Tammie, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Dot Org Events is for all registered nonprofits, foundations, and corporate charities with any event budget. Our team does not coordinate events for the sake of coordinating events; instead, we provide unique event experiences that are truly going to impact our communities for the long-term.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tammie Fletcher, and I’m the Founder and Principal Consultant at Dot Org Events. Dot Org Events provides full event management and coordination services exclusively for non-profit organizations, corporate charities and foundations. We provide event planning services for several types of events, including banquets and galas, donor and volunteer appreciation events, large/annual meetings (leadership, board, etc.), fundraisers, award ceremonies, workshops, grand openings and holiday parties.

Dot Org accomplishes its own mission by only serving non-profit organizations and providing services for charitable events. We adopt each organization’s mission as if it’s our own. By acting as an extension of the organization, we provide unique event experiences that impact the community.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My mom taught me the most about work, and the importance of having a sustainable living to take care of your family. She was an incredibly hard worker who always made things happen for me and my brothers, no matter how little she actually had. She was one of the inspirations for starting my business Dot Org.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Plenty! Starting and running a business (while also working full-time and eventually adding on a side-hustle) is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. There are several things you learn as you go that make owning a business really tough. Not to mention, I didn’t start Dot Org with every single thing I planned. I had to put in the work before getting to a place where I can properly re-invest in the business. My journey to date, although riddled with hard times, is one of learning, triumph, and legacy, that I wouldn’t change for the world.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
My husband and business partner has been my rock. He has wisdom that far exceeds his years, and many of his peers don’t realize that he quietly studies the market and our economy on a regular basis, making him an invaluable resource for ideas related to business growth and profitability. I can’t imagine being here without him.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people talk about my generosity. Everything I do has a giving component to it. Dot Org Events uses a percentage-based pricing model so that all nonprofits, foundations, and corporate charities (no matter how small their budget is) can have an impact on their communities. Dot Org, along with other future ventures, is something my husband and I built to be an asset for our (extended) family, so that we provide a different life for all of us. It’s also a tool that I’ve leveraged to connect my closest friends and peers to additional business opportunities. Giving to those around me is at the heart of everything I do.
