Life and Work with Jahaira Mejia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jahaira Mejia.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jahaira. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Honduras to a single mother of four children. With many sacrifices, my mother was able to bring me to the United States at the age of ten. Seeing my mother working three jobs to provide for us motivated me to continue my studies. I realized that if wanted to achieve my dreams and goals I needed to do something that would set the example in my family. One of the most difficult stages of my life was when I was 15 years old, my mother worked a lot and sometimes she would go party on the weekends. This gave me a lot of freedom to do what I wanted but it also got me into many problems to the point that I started suffering from anxiety and depression. Thank God, one day, I got tired of the way I was living and I realized that the path I was in was leading me to destruction. That is when I took a leap of faith and accepted Jesus Christ in my life. This decision change my life forever. Letting God take control of my life and guide me brought so much peace and joy to my life. Now I can truly say that my life is filled with purpose and meaning.

After graduating from high school, I worked as an office manager. This job provided me with some skills and helped me realized my passion for business administration and opened my eyes to the possibility of owning my own business one day.

Three years ago, my husband and I embarked on a new journey that would be full of many difficulties and all kinds of growth. This was the beginning of Jglow Lounge Event Rentals, a family company that is passionate and dedicated to providing the most extraordinary services to Houston and surrounding areas

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been the hardest but most rewarding journey of my life. When I started, I knew nothing about the entertainment industry. I only had two years of office managing experience before I decided to get in this business path. If I’m honest, the first year was so hard because I rushed to quitting my office job not having the slightest idea that it would take so much time to establish a strong business. This particularly difficult time shaped and defined the rest of my life because those difficult moments without a job allowed me to self-examine myself as a person and value everything I had around me.

My advice for young women is to focus on their goals and don’t get distracted by things that don’t bring any benefits to your life. Always make sure you do what you are passionate about and don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results right away. Always remember that what comes easy won’t last, but what lasts long won’t come easy.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jglow Lounge Event Rentals – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I think the biggest barriers for female leadership in today’s society is the lack of compassion and support towards others. We live in a world where most of us are just focus in our self that we often forget to look around us and see that there might be someone that needs a word on encouragement or an opportunity that could change their life for the better. My advice for any women out there is to support and empower each other instead of trying to bring someone down or competing against each other.
